Gold, pure gold jewelry, 23 & 24 carat gold, everyone wants to own gold these days it seems, but what are Americans really buying when they purchase gold today? The most popular gold jewelry today in the American market is 14kt gold, but what most people do not seem to understand is 14kt gold is really only about 50% pure gold by weight.

Why own anything that is only 50% real? It is because of marketing to the public and the cost of real gold. Retail jewelers will tell you 14kt gold is a great investment but it is not because of the low gold content. Outside of the United States high carat pure gold is the norm in many markets. Jewelry made from  high carat gold is very strong and design to be worn and enjoyed, you should not believe what some may say about 23 kt gold, if is not to soft to be used for fine jewelry, in fact it makes for much better jewelry than the lower carat gold,

Real gold has a much more yellow color to it than 14 and 18 kt weight gold. And it is a great investment. But what is Thai Baht Gold?

Real Thai Baht Gold direct from Thailand

Thai gold goes back a long way. Indeed the word Siam, as Thailand was originally called, and as my company is now called, means ‘gold’ in Sanskrit; the Indians called it Suvannabhumi ( Land of Gold ), and the Chinese Jin Lin ( Peninsula of Gold ). The gold trade, which stretches back about 2000 years, was probably the first contact that Thailand had with the outside world. Suphanburi (province of gold) in central Thailand and nearby Utong (plentiful gold) may have been centers of the gold industry. Baht gold jewelry has been produced for hundreds of years by the skilled Thai Baht gold craftsmen, who have always enjoyed a excellent reputation for creating beautiful designs with flawless workmanship.

In Thailand the government controls who can use the term ” THAI BAHT GOLD ” it is known and recognized worldwide as being 96.5% purity of gold by product weight (23K) making it among the highest gold content jewelry made anywhere in the world today. The remaining 3.5% consists of silver and bronze. Thais use a unique unit of measurement for weighing gold, the “baht” which is precisely 15.244 grams. Most gold shops will display on their windows the current buying and selling price of a “baht” of gold bullion of 96.5% purity.

The term baht is also the Thai currency unit which is somewhat confusing; this listing is for baht gold. In the early days of Thailand’s history there were few banks in the countryside and provinces and Thai Baht gold jewelry was commonly used as a currency. Baht gold is easy to keep, and could be used in trade and commerce, or converted back into any currency at anytime. Thai gold jewelry “Baht Gold” is a convenient and smart way to invest in gold objects of beauty that can wear and enjoy.

Unlike the gold found in the United States and other Western countries that is 14KT, and only 50% gold, or 18KT, less than 75% real gold. This is your chance to own real Thai Baht gold 96.5% pure for what you would pay in the United States for 14K gold, get almost double the gold at the same price! Why Buy Gold From Thailand; Siam The Land of a Thousand Smiles?

Gold prices on the world market are now around $1000 dollars per oz. and the experts are calling for even higher prices in the future. (When I first wrote this guide four years ago gold was around $600 per oz.) Why is Thai Baht Gold jewelry a great way to invest in this market? The answer is simple and has a lot to do with what you are buying and what you are paying for.

In the USA and most western countries jewelry is made up of 14kt and 18kt gold. When you purchase 14kt gold the real gold amount is less than 50% of the total weight vs. Baht Gold with a gold content of 96.5% of the total weight. Thai Baht gold jewelry is almost pure gold at 23kts. So as the price of the metal itself goes up so does the baht gold jewelry.

Another major factor is what are you paying for? In the US Jewelry Market the value of the gold makes up only 25% of the total selling price of a jewelry item. With this low amount of gold you can see it would be very hard to call American jewelry gold an investment. 75% of the selling price is workmanship and profit. For every $100 you spend on US gold less than $25 is for the metal itself.

Thai Baht Gold on the other hand is almost pure gold like bar gold, but unlike bar gold you can wear and enjoy it will having a great investment. And because workmanship and profit is very low you are paying the same money to get much more gold. When the price of gold goes up the price of baht gold moves up with it.

Please do not be fooled by sellers here on eBay that list Dipped or Plated Thai Baht Gold, because these items really are not Baht Gold.  In Thailand they cannot even be called Baht Gold, it is against the law. What many dealers have been doing is to offer jewelry that is made with a non gold base metal; brass, steel, nickel or even silver. And then this base metal is coated with a very thin layer of 23 carat Thai Baht Gold. These plated Baht Gold items do not last, have not investment value, and will very quickly become not wearable.

The cost of workmanship and profit is less than 25% of the total cost with baht gold, which represents a great value. You can hold gold in bars and coins or you can have great jewelry and wear your investment.
