Always look at the bottom of a piece. Truly old ones show ware on the bottom. If a tooth is chipped or missing the piece is worth 30% of the market valuse of a like piece. Old crystal has more of a yellow tint than blue. Listen to the ring and make sure the sound lasts a long time. Don't be confused with mass produced newer crystal that does not feel quite as sharp. Buyer beware of imitations. Your purchase should pop out at you as really fine.
