Cat 6 wire has a better speed rating [bandwidth] than cat 5, and one more step to connectorize it.
Ive done hundreds of these and so wanna share my tips, that make it quicker and easier.
1. Yes, you can remove the outer jacket with a nice sharp razor blade if your careful.
But if you do alot of these your gonna want that little plastic tool for jacket cutting.
2. For cat 6, spread out the wires and snip off the inner plastic spline even with the outer jacket.
For cat 5, cut the nylon strings.
3.Spread all 4 pair out about 45 degrees.
Holding the wire in your left hand [for right- handed people] so that the orange pair is to your right,
the brown pair is to your left, the green pair is up, the blue pair down.
4. untwist the green pair, straighten out its 2 wires, and separate them so the green/ white is
next to the orange pair , the green is next to the brown pair.
5.Now turn over the wire so [brown pair + green] is to your right, [orange pair + green/ white]
is to your left, blue pair is down.
6. Untwist the brown and orange pairs and smooth them out in this order: [brown, brown/white, green]
to your right, [green/white, orange,orange/ white] to your left.
7. Untwist the blue pair in the center and smooth them out, keeping them in the middle with 3 wire
to their right, 3 wires to their left.
8. Double and triple check your got all the wires smoothed together in this order:
brown brown/white green blue/white blue orange orange/white. Smoot them all out parallel and right next to each other.
9. Cut all wires to the right length so the outer jacket makes it inside the rj45 connector
as far as the first crimp. A sissor will cut the wires ok, [or a diagonal cutters.]
10. Check again all wires are in the right order, push them into the connector, check they go all the way and are the right length.
11. Your done! Crimp with your crimper. A nice ratcheting crimper is Ideal, but a cheapo plastic
crimper will do the job for those with good hand strength. Perfect job!
