Tennis Elbow Treatment
I wanted to share with you the latest news on tennis elbow. You may have heard that cortisone or steroid shots may be used as treatment for tennis elbow.
There has been some research done out of Australia that proves that theory wrong. The researchers tested 3 separate tennis elbow treatment groups.
The first group were told to do nothing with their tennis elbow, a simple 'wait and see approach' and told not to perform any duties that would aggravate their tennis elbow pain.
The second group were given a cortisone shot and told to resume everyday normal everyday activities.
The third and final group were taught tennis elbow techniques to perform in the comfort of their own home. Each of the three group's progress was measured after 6 weeks and then again after
1 year.
Drum roll please...The results were:
After 6 weeks - Cortisone shots group had a 78% improvement
- Home Techniques group had a 65% success rate
- 'Wait and see' group had a 27% improvement
However...
After 1 year the results changed...
72% of the cortisone shot group's tennis elbow condition had deteriorated. This group also reported the most reoccurrences of tennis elbow pain!
The best results were from the group of home techniques which had the least amount of relapses of tennis elbow pain.
