CELTIC MESSAGES

Picture of actual box and sample of cards I just randomly picked from the deck.

The Crow: a new start, clearing the ground

The Moon: emotion, dreams, desires

The Maypole: celebration, pleasure

The Crone: wisdome, tolerance roots

Ths oracle set released to the public has not found much acclaim compared to some of the more elaborate decks, however its simple look does not do justice to how and what these cards can be used for.

I have worked with and owned many tarot and divination oracle decks in my day and I found this particular deck really quite unique and intriguing.  This is a 52 card deck which differs from the usual 78 card deck, however it still covers all the bases in meanings as the 78 card deck.

These cards are round as opposed to the rectangular and they fit quite comfortably in my hands. I do have to say that the round shape at first made them a bit hard to do the flip down shuffle with the cards like you would with a regular deck to mix the cards.  That was easily solved by several good shuffles over a couple of days and a light bending without creasing to get a more used feel to the cards.  The cards are slick so I used a bit of talcum powder on my hands when working with the cards to lightly dust the cards for ease of handling.

Now this might be a difficult deck for your clients to shuffle at a reading because they are unusual, however when I read I have the cards spread on a cloth on the table and I have the client mix them about in and out from each other first so that they are touching all the cards at some point and then I have them pick up and shuffle or manipulate whatever feels comfortable for them.  This adds more of their energy into the cards before handing them to me.

The nice feature about this deck in the imagery that is primitive, simple and relaxed.  When reading regular tarot cards sometime the images draw anxiety to the person being read for i.e. when the death or hanged man card comes up one can generally see the worry or fright in facial expression or physical manner in which the client tends to sit upright abruptly almost becoming defensive which interferes with the psychic ability to pick up on their reading. Now, especially those clients that are new at readings or think they know the cards are already assuming something negative and that is not always the case as any reader knows.  The other distraction is then trying to calm the client in the middle of the reading which is disruptive for you the reader and for the client,

Comparing the regular 78 card deck to this one is a bit like compairng apples to oranges, both in the same category but with different aspects.

In my comparing of the two, I would for instance compare the hanged man (frightful image) in the regular deck to the Hill in this deck.  The hanged man is a card that suggests to the querent that they need to step back and look in to the situation, to sacrifiec who and what is before them to find deeper meaning in their situation and journey.  The Hill card, a more friendly image with a picture of a tree on a rolling green hill follows the same message: " gain a position where you can gain an overview of a current situation. Set yourself apart from everyone and everything to consider where you are in life and where you want to be, then make you plans for the future accordingly.  Others may object, so you must decide whether to pay attention to them or put your own desires first". Again, sacrifice to get the knowleege the querent needs.

I have begun readings with this deck and I can easily see where this deck will put the cleint much more at ease during the reading.  The clients ease will greatly help them to keep their thoughts on the interpretations given to them and in that, will aid the reader to link on a deeper psychic level more easily and with more strength for a more accurate and undisturbed read.

Of course this is just my opinion and take on this deck.  I like the deck, clients like the deck as the imagery is not intimidating.  A positive on this also is that rather than just being another reader with an impressive fancy deck, this puts me on a more down to earth level with the client leaving behind the so called stereotypical "smokescreen and magick tricks" approach. A connection that builds a stonger relationship in that I am a regular person like them with the exception that I possess a magickal gift that I can offer them in their own journey.
