You are curious about the Tarot. You circle and wonder "what's it all about?" ~~ Perhaps you've been kept away by the demonization of a belief system that was forced underground, by those threatened that it just might "free people" from systemic control.
I will tell you now that the Tarot goes way beyond fortune telling and divination.
The Tarot is a Book of Life unbound for obvious reasons: It makes it easier to shuffle. Tarot is the story of human experience that can be cast and drawn upon for many reasons. Among them something I call 'fun therapy' .
By using the Tarot as a telephone to your soul, you can begin to dredge out ancient feelings, 'roadblocks' that keep you from moving forward towards your chosen destination. Tarot is also a wonderful venue for exploring and casting new perspectives on old patterns of behavior. ~~ But I am getting ahead of myself.~~ First you need to find a deck.
Ebay is a wonderful source for finding just the right Tarot deck for you. I strongly suggest that you explore before you purchase. There are so many decks out there that you could get lost for hours. It is my advice that you find one that 'talks to you'. The art should grab you and hold you.For therein lies the connection, thru the language of art and emotion.
If you are a Romantic, the Golden Dawn deck or the TAROT OF ATLANTIS, will move you with a yearning. Maybe you have a sense of humor that throws back to the sixties or seventies. Morgan's Deck would be right up your alley.
(Although, I have since learned that this deck is out of print and has become a much sought after collectible.-- HAPPY HUNTING.)
I like things light and airy so I chose, as my primary deck (for self discovery), The Whimsical Tarot.
It's full of fairytale characters that will tickle your whimsical inner child in a most delightful way.
Now this is important ~~ don't let anyone tell you what you need to do with your cards. Contrary to the practice of some, it is not necessary to wrap your cards in white velvet or satin to 'keep them pure'. There is a reason for ritual and 'drama', and I understand that. However, it's not necessary; especially if you live in the light.
Here's another suggestion. Write on your cards. (Your cards...not those you might be saving as collectibles-- Those you want to keep extremely pure for resale value.) But it's true that I have found keywords trigger a connection. In time you will develop a personal relationship with your deck. ~~ Like a telephone this is your 'direct line' to that part of you that dwells beneath the subconscious. The super consciousness. I am absolutely sure there will be scholars who want to argue about what exactly is the SOUL and THE SEAT OF THE SOUL -- but this is my guide and for the sake of easy conversation, Let's call it THE SOUL.
TALK TO YOUR OWN SOUL. Take five to ten minutes everyday and TALK TO YOUR OWN SOUL. Turn off the TEXT feature. No Call Waiting. This is private time for the mind to talk to soul. And remember.....the idea is not to see what the cards say to you, but what you say (or shout) back to the cards.
Okay, let's start with a very simple spread. Three cards: Past, Present, Future. Ask the deck to open your mind and bring you a message. Now remember these cards are designed around common human experiences, so don't be shocked if you relate strongly to the first cards drawn . It's not magic. It's life! (Sometimes you will experience something called syncronicity ; the'profound timing of a certain message' ~~ Believe me you will know when that happens. ~~ That's when the universe has interrupted your 'fun therapy' for BREAKING NEWS . But for the most part the magic is inside of you, and what you do with the experience to transform your life. The greatest gift of the Tarot is the power of healing. It demonstrates the interconnectiveness of our human experience and reminds us that we are not alone. We have a way -- a choice -- of turning a dark blue funk into a smile of understanding. It's your interaction with the cards that will bring you closer to grasping this golden gift: To get back in touch with your spirit self. The one who came to this Earth to learn.
The more you use your Tarot cards the quicker you will develop your own 'language' with the cards. You will turn to them like an old friend who listens and offers advice...even when it's advice you don't want to hear. I've found that it is always when I argue most with the cards that I'm closer to uncovering an unpleasant truth about myself.
Ebay is a wonderful source for the collector and beginner. Move slowly through this process of discovery. Don't let anyone tell you that these cards come from Satan. Fear comes from Satan. Inquisitions come from Satan. Love protects and spreads more Love. So walk in the light of Love and enjoy the journey....
Just don't forget to 'phone home'.
