You know not to eat with your mouth full and to keep your elbows off of the table. Here are some other tips to keep in mind:
1. As soon as you are seated, unfold your napkin and place it on your lap. When you get up to use the restroom, place it on the chair. When you have finished eating and ready to leave the table place it neatly on the table beside your plate, not on it.
2. Your plates for solids are on your left and glasses for your liquids on your right. (For example: the water glass on your right is the one you drink from.)
3. When you're faced with several knives, forks and spoons work "from the outside in".
4. Break your bread into bite size pieces and butter each piece. Never use a knife to slice and butter the bread.
5. Place your silverware together on the outer right rim of the plate between bites. Once it's been used, it never touches the table again.
6. Salt and pepper are passed together, even if someone asks for only salt.
7. Hold a stemmed glass by the stem, which avoids the liquid from become warm from the heat of your hands.
8. When you're still eating place your silverware on the plate (fork on left, knife on right) so that the waiters know that you haven't finished.
9. When you're finished place your knife and fork side by side on the right side of the plate- half in and half out, at a slight angle.
10. Smile and talk to the people on the left and right of you about pleasant things.
