NAZCA LINES AND THE MYSTERY BEHIND THEM...

Perú is a beautiful country located in Western South America, bordering the South Pacific Ocean, between Chile and Ecuador. It's capital is Lima, which was founded by Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535.

One of the things that makes Perú so intriguing is the multicultural layers of great civilization. The colonial cities preserve the legacy of the Spanish conquistadors, the ancient Inca capital of Cuzco, the lost city of Machu Picchu and the Peruvian Andes are arguably the most beautiful place you could ever visit. But the most unbelievable and the place that ponders the great enigma of all, are the Nazca Lines.

The Nazca desert is a high plateau, about 60 miles long and 5-6 miles wide on the coast of Perú, about 250 miles south of Lima. A very long time ago, the Nazca valley was inhabited by people who somehow developed advanced farming methods that allowed them to build an irrigation system which improved their crops and expanded the area of farming land. The most fascinating of their cultural achievements was the creation of a remarkable ground art, the exact purpose of which remains a total mystery.

Many, many, many years later, travelers that went thru Nazca started noticing strange and obviously artificial lines in the desert floor, but these lines were unimpressive and meaningless at ground level, so as planes began to fly over Nazca, people started noticing that some of the lines formed parts of gigantic figures which could only be appreciated from the air, so aerial photographs were taken and these proved to be unbelievable!

So here lays the mystery .... these drawings are at least 1500+ years old, so why would people, at times when there were no airplanes, bother to make figures that could only be appreciated from the air? Archaeologists have developed many explanations for this, one if that these figures were actually made with the help of aliens, or by aliens and were not meant to be seen for a long time by human eyes, maybe these figures have a religious meaning.... Could this be true?

These Nazca lines, of which there are thousands, consist of five kinds of markings/drawings: plants, animals, log straight lines, large geometric figures, rock piles and last but not least, figures decorating hillsides. There are drawings of a fish, a monkey, birds, spiders and several unidentified creatures. There are also some rectangular shapes and a large number of straight lines that seem to run from nowhere to nowhere. Some of these lines are as narrow as just 6 inches or as wide as several hundred yards. It's amazing how these lines have remained nearly unchanged for many centuries!

The Nazca lines attracted the public's attention when the UFO sightings began in 1950. Researchers started looking back to ancient history and mythology for evidence of early space visitors, but still today, no hard evidence has been found... but.... what is really amazing is that when the space shuttle flight landed at Edwards AFB in California, the markings that covered the field where the shuttle landed and those in the Nazca desert were very similar. So... what does this mean? Were these lines really made by UFOs or was this just a coincidence? Will we ever find out the mystery behind the Nazca lines?

Whatever the answer is, I personally think we will never know 100% how or who made these Nazca lines/drawings. But they are amazing lines that hold a great mystery and are worth seeing.
