As we head into the holiday season we wanted to bring you some great general guidelines when shopping for toys!

Toy Safety is near and dear to our hearts and at HelloBaby (HelloBaby Store ) we make every effort to offer you a

wide selection of wonderful and safe toys!  Shop with confidence.

GENERAL TOY SAFETY - PARENTS GUIDELINES

  • The toy should be well made and sturdy, If not, it could break apart and injure a child.
  • Make sure the toy's finish or paint is nontoxic and does not show signs of peeling.
  • Art supplies such as crayons, paints, and modeling clay must be nontoxic.  Look for the ACMI (Art and Creative Material Institute, Inc.) seal certifying the product's safety.
  • Make sure toys (including stuffed animals, are washable so they don't become breeding grounds for germs.
  • Beware of toys with electrical connections.  Battery-powered toys are acceptable as long as the batteries and wires are safely enclosed and inaccessible or the toy is used only under close supervision.
  • Test rocking horses and rideable toys for stability.
  • Look for any sharp points, edges, or brittle, breakable parts that could cause injury or hurt small hands, feet, or fingers
  • Be wary of loud toys.   Noise levels greater than 100 decibels can damage your child's hearing.
  • Avoid toys that involve throwing or shooting projectiles.  Many of these toys are potentially dangerous, especially to the eyes. If an older child plays with these toys that they are used safely, away from younger children, and with constant adult supervision. Also make sure that any small parts such as plastic discs or rubber suction cups do not become a choking hazard to younger children.
  • Avoid latex balloons. Be aware that one of the greatest choking hazards for children is unflated balloons and the pieces of burst balloons. Opt for mylar balloons.

TOYS FOR TODDLERS

  • Choking hazards such as marbles, small blocks, small balls and game pieces are too small for children under 3 years old. If it passes through a toilet paper roll it should be avoided.
  • Balls and other toys made of foamlike materials may be hazardous because a child may bite off pieces and could swallow them.
  • Beware of toys with internal springs, gears, or hinges.  Toddlers could put them in their mouths and choke.
  • Strings, ribbons, or cords longer than six inches place your child at risk for strangulation. Avoid such toys or remove or trim the strings.

We hope these guidelines for toy safety will keep you and your family happy and safe for the holidays!!
All the Best for a wonderful and peaceful holiday from HelloBaby
