This guide will show you how to remove the Network lock on your Samsung SGH-T339. Although the SGH-T339 is best used on T-Mobile because of the UMA and MyFaves features sometimes using other carriers is unavoidable.

Unlockers will charge you anywhere from $3.99USD to $19.99USD to do what you will be able to do for free if you follow these instructions.

The Unlock Routine

A. Turn on phone with full battery and non-T-Mobile SIM in place. SIM does not have to be an active SIM, just a non-T-Mobile SIM.  Allow phone to completely boot up to "Wrong SIM" screen.

B. From Wrong SIM Screen enter:

 *#7465625#  to confirm lock status

C. Scroll through Interrogate Screen

1.  Network lock - Active (this is the one you'll be deactivating)
2.  Subset lock - inactive
3.  SP lock - inactive
4.  CP lock - inactive
5.  SIM lock - inactive
6.  Activa lock - inactive
7.  Auto network lock - inactive
8.  Auto subset lock - inactive
9.  Auto SP lock - inactive
0. Auto CP lock - inactive
*. Auto SIM Card lock - inactive
#. Phone lock - inactive

D. Push "C" button under navigation button to clear Interrogate screen back to Wrong SIM
     screen

E. From the Wrong SIM screen enter the following:

*7465625*638*00000000*00000000#  Those are two series of eight zeros. The phone will not show the zeros but will show dashes in their place.

Phone may make a small tone and at the bottom of the screen it will read "Network Personalized" or perhaps "Network Already Personalized".  It may simply go to the standby screen or back to Wrong SIM screen.  Most frequently it goes to the "Wrong SIM" screen. This variation could be because of differences in firmware.

F. Now input the following from whatever screen shows up:

#7465625*638*00000000# (again this is a series of eight zeros) The phone may act as if you aren't doing anything if it returns to the Wrong SIM screen. Watch your entry carefully.

Phone may make small tone and read "Network Lock Deactivated"  go to next step. It may act as if you have done absolutely nothing. If you are entering the above at the "Wrong SIM" screen the phone will not respond. After 30 seconds proceed to the next step.

G. Turn off phone
H. Re-start the handset and allow it to reboot.
J. The device will act as if it is unlocked. It isn't, not-permanently. ( I have received a field report that at this point in the process a particular t339 is still showing "Wrong SIM". More about this below. ) Enter #7465625*638*00000000# This time you should get a tone and "Network Lock deactivated" message. Now it is permanently unlocked.

K. Enter: *#7465625# to confirm lock removal status

L. Scroll through Interrogate Screen

1.  Network lock - inactive (note that this lock is now inactive)
2.  Subset lock - inactive
3.  SP lock - inactive
4.  CP lock - inactive
5.  SIM lock - inactive
6.  Activa lock - inactive
7.  Auto network lock - inactive
8.  Auto subset lock - inactive
9.  Auto SP lock - inactive
0. Auto CP lock - inactive
*. Auto SIM Card lock - inactive
#. Phone lock - inactive

That's it.  Your SGH-T339 is ready to accept SIM cards from just about any GSM mobile telephone service provider in the world.

It Didn't Work

Phone manufacturers update their firmware during production runs. What works with one level of firmware may not work with a different level of firmware. It may not be possible to unlock your T339 using this method. All is not lost if this didn't work.

Wrong Password Message

If you received a "wrong password" message you will need to insert a working T-Mobile SIM and reset the password to the default 8 zeroes "00000000". After that you may try this routine again and it should work.

Wrong SIM Screen in Step J

UPDATE!

I have come across a handset that rebooted to the "Wrong SIM" screen. It did this twice. On the third attempt it unlocked. Was I being sloppy in my entry? Is this a new wrinkle in the firmware? I can't say for sure because there are about twenty keystrokes done without any visual feedback on the screen. I do know I successfully unlocked the handset using this guide but had to go through the steps three times to do it.

Unlocking Alternatives

Free Code - If you have been with T-Mobile longer than 90 days you can request the IMEI unlock code for your device. If you are on a pre-paid plan you usually have to have refilled within the last 30 days even if you have a hefty balance. I know because I unlocked a Nokia handset this way in late May on my prepaid acount with a balance of over $100.00 but hadn't refilled it since March.

Buying A Code - Be sure to purchase a code that is based on the IMEI number of your handset, not a code and set of instructions similar to what is presented here. If you've gotten this far and it hasn't worked paying $4.99 for the same information isn't going to make it work any better.

Thank you, Vito, for your  input about a T339 that you couldn't unlock by this method. That is important information and led to adding two sections to this guide.

This guide was developed with device in one hand and keyboard in the other to ensure accuracy. If it is unclearly written or just flat incorrect please contact me and  let me know. I'm very good at taking informed criticism.
