MOTOROLA'S SURFboard Cable Modem has been the reliable solution for my family and me for the past four years. We have bought them as part of cable packages in our area. New in the box include, USB or Ethernet cables, Software, adapter, guide, and modem. The USB cable has been quite a lifesaver when the Ethernet connections on our computers became unreliable.
CONNECTIVITY SPEED
It is limited by the number of splits. Fewer splits between televisions and computers equals faster downloads; don't use the modem with more than four splits!
Tendency to reset itself a few times a day. A headache when uploading/downloading files or making a last minute bid...lol
PLACEMENT OF INDICATOR LIGHTS
Although the design is far superior to others that I have used, the lights on the front counsel are convenient for those that place the modem inside something rather than underneath. There have been many days that I have disconnected the cable to read the lights. However, if the box is placed inside a drawer and needs to be viewed from the front, it is a perfect match
INDICATOR LIGHTS - MEANING
Excellent as they indicated if the computer is powered, or if the cable is disconnected, or running slow. A beep indicator would have been a bonus, but with the many flickering orange, red, and green indicators sound is not necessary.
DESIGN
Vertical. Genius!
DURABILITY
5/5 The casing sounds cheap, but surprisingly it is very durable. I have dropped it. Stepped on it. I have only returned one in four years. It is truly the TIMEX of modems...lol
COLOR
Ah the black. Can never go wrong with a black unit. Smart MOTOROLA
COMPARABLE TO OTHERS MODEMS
- Video Downloads SURFboard - 5 minutes DSL - 13 minutes
- Songs Download - 50 seconds - 5 minutes
- Website Uploading Files - 7 seconds - 3 minutes
A 4 out of 5. Cons: Resetting. Pros: Color, speed, durability, and of course connectivity
