Information about Sundance Publications, Ltd., "Display" Copies.
Sundance sells these at half of retail price only to their walk-trade. They are stamped "Display Copy" (sometimes in several places) because they are
seconds and are defective in some manner. Sundance uses them on their shelves as browsing copies to save wear and tear on perfectly good stock. Often the covers were scuffed at the bindery before Sundance received them and put the plastic cover on. Ones like this are a very good deal. However, there are many other possible defects (some books may have several) that often make these books less than desirable. To name a few:
- Book bound in case upside down.
- Misprinted press test sheets folded and bound into book.
- Loose binding, poor stitching, splattered with glue or machinery oil, pages glued together.
- End sheets missing and book pages glued to cover boards instead.
- Missing or duplicated groups of pages.
- Color pictures out of register and off color.
- Book trimmed to wrong size.
- Corners bent or frayed from being dropped or rough handling.
Sundance sells these with the understanding that they are not returnable and neither can they be exchanged for a first-rate copy. When considering purchase of these books, be sure you can live with the defects and be certain not to pay a premium price for them. I
refuse to sell DISPLAY COPY books and you can therefore be assured that any Sundance book you buy from me is covered by Sundance's replacement policy.
