Here are my hints for basic summer makeup based on 12 years experience as a beauty consultant.
I Love Warmer Weather! I was raised in the Deep South of USA and am now displaced in the North. Don't get me wrong...I like the first snow fall and warm fires in the winter. But the pale skin and grey skies are not a good mix for me.
- SKIN CARE - Don't skip this. It is a must for morning and night. No makeup looks good on dull, dirty skin. You need a cleanser, toner, exfoliator and moisturizer. Use oil-free products if you have anything other than the driest of dry facial skin. Make sure you are using the best for your budget. Yes, money matters in cosmetics. To a certain point, you get what you pay for. Cheaper products are mostly water and/or wax.
- Concealer - Yes, if you really feel like you need it. Use one that closely matches your skin tone and is a creamy consistency. Use only where you need it and blend just in that spot. Pat a little loose powder with your ring finger to set the concealer.
- Skip heavy foundations. Use a powder foundation or tinted moisturizer. I prefer a tinted moisturizer with an SPF. If using a powder foundation, be sure to use a moisturizer with an SPF or oil-free sunscreen before applying.
- Bronzer Powder - Apply with a large powder brush to your cheek bones, chin, forehead and under jaw.
- Eyes - Use a light beige or tan all over from your lashline up to your eyebrows. Stay away from frosts if you suffer from eye allergies or have heavy wrinkles in the eye area. Then apply a darker brown in the crease. Apply a light brown eye pencil above the top lashes and under bottom lashes - halfway to two thirds across. Smudge the line with pinky finger or cotton swab. Curl eye lashes and apply black or black-brown mascara. Waterproof mascara is fantastic for Summer. Don't forget to apply just a little eyebrow color. Use a pencil formulated for brows. Or, use your brown eyeshadow.
- Lips - Time to get out your corals and pinks. Lip colors are the one thing you must try before you buy. Just because it looks good on your sister or best buddy doesn't mean it will look good on you. Lip color is very personal because of the PH in your skin. Find a lip pencil that closely matches your lip color. Following your natural lip line, draw a "V" in the middle of your top lip. Then, connect the "V" to each half of top lip. Do the same on the bottom but start with a small arc or "U" in the middle. Use small dashes until you get the hang of it. Use a lipstick or colored lipgloss over this.
- Voila - you're done. It may sound like a lot, but I have got this down to less than 5 minutes in the morning. Practice makes perfect.
- NOTE: Don't forget to take your makeup off before bed. Use an oil-free eye makeup remover or you will have problems with eye pencils and eye color staying in place, the next day.
