Why  Decorate a Miniature Feather Tree?

A miniature white feather tree is one of the most versatile decorations you will ever own.  They're readily available on eBay and reasonably priced.

Last year, I bought a 24-inch white feather tree from an eBay seller for about $30.  As I write this in late September, there is a good selection available on eBay in varying sizes and prices.  The limbs on mine fold straight up, and the tree slips into a relatively small box for easy storage, but you may never want to put it up!  These are easily decorated for Valentine's Day, Easter, wedding or baby showers, wedding and anniversary receptions, and teas, as well as for Christmas.

For Christmas, I used mine on a small round table in my bedroom, which has a romantic cottage décor.  In keeping with the romantic theme, I made a pretty rose-printed skirt with a white lace flounce, then piled on tiny packages wrapped in white paper and decorated with pink ribbon and silk roses.

To decorate the tree, I used pink miniature balls, a few small vintage ornaments (like the lacy glass bell you can see in the photo), a china demitasse cup, and lots of vintage and newer clip-on earrings, which I clipped to the ends of the branches.  Most of the earrings were rhinestone or pearlized beads, and some were danglers.  Some of these I purchased on eBay, but most were already in my collection.

Other Occasions

The earrings would work well for all seasons and occasions.  You will just need to mix in some ornaments appropriate to the occasion.  For wedding showers and receptions, silk roses and satin ribbon bows are pretty.  You can also create photo ornaments using small frames you buy or cut yourself from matboard.  Purchased frames can be painted to suit your color scheme; beads and rhinestones can be glued on to matboard frames for a bit of glitz.  I found several good lots of miniature frames on eBay, including some intended for doll houses that are gorgeous!

Know someone who's celebrating a milestone anniversary?  A feather tree decorated with such ornaments, using photos from throughout the couple's marriage, would be most appropriate!

For baby showers, hobby stores and eBay sellers offer bags of miniature pacifiers, rocking horses, storks, bottles, rattles, diaper pins, and other favors that are easily hung on the tree with ribbon.

I found some darling pink and white resin purse and shoe ornaments at a dollar store a couple of years ago, and I use these on my Valentine's tree along with a few hand-painted heart ornaments I won in eBay auctions, silk roses, and lots of ribbon bows and streamers.

For a tea, you could use lots of demitasse cups, pots and cups from miniature tea sets, and you can even use a porcelain bit to drill holes in saucers so that you can hang them.

Those wonderful beaded necklaces from the 1950s make great garlands for miniature trees.  I've bought a few to use this holiday season, and I'm also planning to use some vintage chandelier prisms.  You'll find plenty of both on eBay.

These are just a few ideas for decorating a feather tree.  Just put on your creative thinking cap, and you'll come up with lots of your own, I'm sure.  Browsing eBay auctions is a good place to start.  Good luck finding the things you want to use, and have fun decorating your own feather tree!
