Avoid those nasty (and expensive) ghost images during production. There are at least two main reasons I have found that we get a ghost print.
1- The transfer is slightly moved while putting the top platten of the press down or ,most likely, while the top platten is being raised. There is typically a suction created when you lift the top platten too fast if you are not using heat tape on all of your transfers. Use the tape . It may slow you down a little but saves money and frustration in the long run. I have also found that by leaving the transfer on a bit longer will allow more dye to migrate from the transfer to the substrate and there will be less chance of a ghost print if the transfer does move.
2- You are using a Teflon sheet or the same cover more than once . The dye will migrate into whatever cover you use. It may take a few times with the Teflon before the dye is on the sheet but eventually it will come back to haunt you with a ghost image of one of your previous transfers. (Pun intended)
The best solution we have found is to use a fresh & cheap sheet of paper (without any color fibers in it) over each new item you are pressing . It will seem like a big waste of paper but just price it in with your cost of production if you feel the need . It will be less expensive than throwing away all the ghost printed items you will have if you do not.
Hope this was helpful to someone . Let me know . Have fun and don't forget to make money too!!!
