To all those who have e-mailed me with wonderful, kind comments about my guide, Thanks! To all those who have shared their frustration, secrets and tips about thinning hair...SUPER BIG eBay HUGS!!!

Who would have guessed that over 22,271 people would read this guide. That proves, we are NOT alone!

Get Thicker Looking Hair Now!

Turning 40 has brought a wealth of surprises, one being Female Androgenetic Alopecia. 40% of women by age 60 will experience this type of hair loss. There are many causes for this diffuse thinning of the hair. As we age, fluctuating hormones play a large role in how our body changes, directly affecting our moods, skin and hair density.

My hair began to thin shortly after turning 40, when I was perscribed a medication that caused hair loss. I've discovered many products, tricks and tips for managing my thinner hair. Here are my secrets to thicker, fuller looking hair!

Styling Tricks For Fuller Hair:

To create the effect of thicker fuller hair, you will be "layering" several styling products into your hair before drying. Don't be afraid,  this will NOT weigh your hair down! These products and this technique will produce tons of volume. Remember to apply products with a "light hand". A little goes a long way.

Take a look at the picture below. Notice how much of my scalp shows. I am thinning in the front scalp area and crown of my head. My hair is very fine and thin, with some natural wave.

Starting with very wet hair, lift hair in sections at the scalp and apply a volumizing spray  to the roots. I use Garnier Fructis Body & Volume Root Lifting Treatment. Do not comb through.

Next, flip head upside down and apply a quarter sized amount of contouring cream to the ends of hair. I use MATRIX curl.life contouring cream. Rub the cream between your hands to warm it up, then "ruffle" it through the ends of your hair only.

With head flipped upside down apply a very very small amount, less than pea size, of styling wax to hair ends. Again, warm the wax between your hands, then "ruffle" through hair. I use L'Oreal Studioline Crystal Wax .

O.K., at this point I sense your getting nervous about putting all this junk on your thin fine hair! Fear not. I know where you're coming from. Those of us with fine thin hair have had many a limp, greasy lock due to over conditioning and too much mousse. However, what we're trying  to do here is build the hair up and add structure. So, let's continue.

The final, a most important step, that really adds volume is a combination of two products mixed together. Spray a small amount of spray wax or gel into the palm of your hand. I use Garnier Fructis purefix spray.

Next sprinkle a small amount of any perfumed body powder into the spray gel or wax. I use a shimmering body powder for fun! Rub the mix together in your hands and apply to the full length of your hair, but NOT the scalp. This produces tons of volume and gives a matte finish.

Finally! Time to blow dry. In a comfortable seated position, flip head upside down and blow dry on LOW heat. Use a blow dryer, with a diffuser  attached. Mine's duct taped on, I never take it off! Scrunch your hair tightly in your hands as you blow dry, ruffling and lifting at the scalp.

When hair is almost COMPLETELY DRY, flip head right side up. Remember, we're not styling the hair right now, we're adding volume. Don't let the Don King look scare you!

With head in upright position, continue to dry any damp hair at nape and crown area. Push hair into the shape and style you desire. At this point, after you have created volume, you can use the curling iron or hot rollers to add curl and shape to your style. Finish with a strong hold styling spray to keep your locks looking great all day! I use Hair Concepts bigsexyhair spray.

The Finished Look

I wouldn't try this technique for the first time on a work day. Experiment on your day off, when you have plenty of time to play. Don't be afraid to try different products, until you find the perfect combination for your specific needs. If hair turns out too stiff, too shiny or not quite right, just shampoo and start over!
