Octagons, are rectangular polished top with faceted edges, and chunky faceted backs. could be gold foiled or unfoiled.
Cabuchons have a domed polished top. This style datesd back to midieval times... almost always flat back, could be foiled or unfoiled.
Round faceted tops(referred to as "rauten) , flat backs, which might have a gold foiled back or unfoiled.
Multi faceted glass jewels will have a polished center on top, and faceted back.
Most glass jewels are figured in millimeters. Any ruler has this measurement on the opposite side of the inches.
An inch is approximately 25 mm.
Matte is a soft almost velvety look.
Quality of glass jewels is important if clarity is needed. Swarovski crystals rank the highest, then machine cuts, then table tin cuts, . Could be from Czechoslavakia, Japan, Western Germany, Germany. Newer glass stones are also being lab created.. However, the earlier glass jewels from 1950's and earlier have much more quality.
