I was very curious to understand why Stryker endoscopy's 1188 HD camera was so superior to Stryker's 988 Digital Three chip camera.  Besides the obvious marketing language, I was really curious if I could produce the image quality of an 1188 with a 988.

When I did a side by side comparison using nothing but my intuition and 20/20 eyesite, I had to admit that the Stryker 1188 HD camera which retails for about $25,000 compared to a Stryker 988 which sells for less than $5000, has a really nice image.

Okay! The Stryker 1188 HD won hands down and had a better visual quality image--with all things being equal.  Here is how I made things equal.  I used a NEW stryker 10mm 0' Laparoscope, with a new Strker Light Cable 5mm diameter and 10 feet in length, a standard 300 watt lightsource (which happend to be Storz), and finally I hooked them both up to two NEW out of the box Strykers 21 inch VISION ELECT flat panel color monitors via DVI output on both cameras.

Both images looked great.  Just the monitor alone versus the 5 year old Sony PVM CRT 20 inch Color Monitor that most surgeons I know use is a vast improvement in image quality.  So lesson number one, if you want to prolong the life of your 988 camera and improved image quality--the Stryker Vision Elect HD Monitor is one way to achieve this.

However, these monitors are over $6,000 each!  Yikes!  So I thought how can I improve the image quality of the the 988 with a less expensive substitute.  The answer I came up with was the Stryker Vision2.  Stykers older model 19 inch flat panel HD monitor that you can buy for under $3000.

This did improve the image quality of the 988 when compared to the 1188 and the Vision Elect.   I felt the quality in the image was an 8.5 with the 988 if the the Vision Elect with the 1188 was a 10.  I wasn't satisfied with these results.  I wanted to prove that you could make the Stryker 988 camera with a few modification look at least a 9.5 out of 10 compared to the 1188 model and do it under $5000.

If you were to price out a Stryker 1188 camera and Vision Elect monitor you can expect nothing less than $20,000 and I think that is with generous discounts.  So my goal is to save you $15,000.  But there was still some disperity.

So I went on to improve the image quality of the 988 and Vision2 monitor even more. I did some study time at one of the manufactures in this Market, which I won't name, and I learned how to increase the visual sensation of clarity when viewed with 20/20 vision.

Before I get into the technical details, it is important to distinguish the complexity of what is going on.  Check out this link  which will walk you through what High Definition actually means.

If you did read through the above link you would conclude that pixel and
