Clothes and Crafts Toner and Mor, a sister company of AOM, has been in the Copier, Fax and Laser Printer Sales, Service and Repair business for 13 years. We have had our fair share of Paper Jam Service Calls. Here are some things that you can do on your own to make sure you do not have a paper jam emergency that requires a technician right away.
The first thing is to make sure that you are using the correct paper. Cardstock is too thick and usually jams because of its weight. Thin Computer Paper, transparencies and such are too thin and cause jams also. Make sure that the paper that you are using is appropraite for the machine that you are using. You can usually find this out by looking in the machine manual that comes with the machine.
The next thing that you want to do is make sure that you do not fill the paper tray up with too much paper. Too much paper causes jams at the paper entry as does the wrong weight of paper.
The third thing that you should do is to FAN THE PAPER before you put it in the paper tray. Flip through the paper as you would flip through a book. This put a little air between the pages and makes sure that you do not get a mulit feed paper jam at the paper entry.
The forth thing that you should do is to always make sure you close the lid of the copier and turn any dark printing 180 degrees so that the dark printing is on the tail of the copy. This will help to stop the monotonous accordian jams in the exit of the copier.
The last thing you should do is to make sure that the machine is level and sitting on a sturdy table or desk.
