Hi, my name is Robert.
After reading a fellow ebayer's guide on Silver Kennedy Halves, I started going to my local banks and requesting LOOSE Kennedy halves from the tellers ( SOUNDS SILLY, BUT UNLESS THE TELLER (WINDOW) YOUR AT ASKS THE OTHER TELLERS, GET BACK IN LINE AND GO TO THE OTHER TELLERS WINDOWS UNTIL YOU ASKED THEM ALL).
About 6 weeks ago, approx. 1st of December 2008 I started doing this and honed my knowledge and skills some, still room for improvement though.
Sometimes I only get a few or none, other times, I hit the jackpot :)
and if you have a good eye and ear, you can watch and hear, the teller happily hand you silver halves, heck I even got a Walking Liberty Half once!!!! (Silver coins sound different than clad coins.)
Don't forget to go to the COMMERCIAL TELLER AS WELL, while standing in line for the commercial teller, a gentleman plopped some coins on the counter and tried to turn a 1 oz. .999 SILVER ONE DOLLAR SILVER EAGLE in, he was just the guy making his business' deposit,
I asked him if I could buy it, he said "yes", for $1!!!!! Boy, did I smile and get giddy inside, an ounce of US silver, for $1!!!!!!!!!
I also get as many rolls as I have spare money, sometimes purchasing up to 60 rolls, if they have them, they are more than happy to depart with what they have on hand, even ask if they have any in their vault.
To date, I have recovered (35) 40% SILVER halves from the years 1965 to 1969, as 1970 40% SILVER half was issued only in mint sets, (12 ) 90% SILVER KENNEDY HALVES!!!!!
Also found a Proof clad Kennedy from the nineties, obviously, someone opened a mint set, etc. and spent it.
A 1973 clad half with damaged planchet, kinda cool to look at and of course the Silver Eagle and Walking Liberty half.
Sometimes you strike lucky, sometimes you don't.
Oh yeah if possible don't cash rolls in at the bank you got them from, pick a branch of your bank you rarely go to.
To me it is like a treasure hunt and it is a constructive hobby, except my wife hates it when I pay for things with 50 cent pieces!!!!
Hope some of you have found this guide useful.
Happy Hunting!
Robert

Yesterday, 2-3-2009, I got $250 in rolled halves, $120 from one bank and $130 from another.
Got home, went through them and found one 1964 90% silver half and eight 40% (1966-1969), mostly 1968's.
So, 9 keepers out of 500 coins. As you see the percentages of finding "keepers" is low, but the "hunt" is a motivating factor for me.
Of course, the real fun is finding silver coins and getting them for a mere 50 cents a piece!
I am going to turn them in and pickup $500 in rolls from my bank today.
They ordered them for me upon request!
Never done that before, so I'll let ya know later today!
BTW, I have two separate bank accounts, so I have twice the opportunities.
I have found that some banks will not service non-customers, so be prepared for those instances.

Well, the bank rolls were a bust...not even 1 silver, but that the breaks.
I think I'll stick with going to the banks directly, getting what loose coins and rolls they have on hand.
I'll post more soon.

I went to my regular bank branch and withdrew $30 and asked the teller if she had any halves, she said she had 5 rolls so I got them and did pretty good.
Found 2 Franklin halves 90 % silver, 4 1964 Kennedy halves 90% silver and 1 1965 Kennedy 40% silver.
Pretty good day!!!
3-2-2009
Got $600 in halves today, not one silver.
That's the breaks!
I have $200 in halves to pick up tomorrow.
I did get about 6 rolls of 2000 AU to UNC, don't know if their is a market for them?
Tomorrow is a new day!
Always positive :)
Bests,
Robert
