If you are a long time collector of Stikfas kits, you know what they're all about. However, let's say you never actually saw them in a store before (which is highly likely, because I always had a tough time finding them anywhere when they were available in regular retail stores). Maybe you saw an ad somewhere and said 'Hey, that's looks cool!' Hopefully I can answer some questions you might have about Stikfas and the different kits on this page.
One of the best things about Stikfas is that with the right combination of parts and colors, anyone can make a custom action figure. Whether you like Patriotic heroes, Grim and Gritty characters, Fantasy warriors or Space adventurers, the only skill you need is the ability to snap together the various body parts and accessories. It's just that easy!
Stikfas have many body styles, but they all have one thing in common: Poseability! Each Stikfas figure snaps together with ball-joints, which allows for a greater range of poses for a figure this small (on average, they stand about 3 inches tall). The Alpha Male is the original Stikfas body. The Omega Male is a bulkier version of the Alpha Male. Another variation of the Alpha Male is the G2 Alpha Male, which has extra joints at the elbows and knees, allowing it to get into almost any pose you can imagine. The Delta Boy is the smallest Stikfas figure. There also is the Beta Female figure. The G2 Gamma Male is a variation on the Omega Male but with extra joints at the elbows and knees. The newest variation on the Alpha Male is the G2 Sigma Male, a slimmer version of the G2 Alpha Male. Dinosaurs are a more recent addition to the Stikfas family. Four kits are available, including a Tyrannosaurus, Pterodactyl, Stegasuarus and Triceratops.
Stikfas come in several types of kits, as well.
The Regular Pack is the standard size, and includes a sheet of stickers and many accessories for each figure. And it's not just one or two accessories, either. Each figure is given a lot items, ranging from guns and swords to candelabras and backpacks. The Superhero, Supervillian and Pirate kits come with 2 figures each, making these kits the best deal for Regular packs.
The Lite Pack is a smaller kit which still includes stickers and accessories for each figure. The amount of items included in these kits are less than a Regular pack, but the price is considerably less too! This is a great way to see if Stikfas are for you (or someone else if you're buying them as a gift). The Lite pack is also the only kits (so far) that has sports-related figures, such as hockey and baseball, for those of you that like playing in the real world.
The Deluxe Pack includes many extras, and more often than not, those extras are big! The Warrior with Dragon kit features a big Dragon to go along with your Stikfas. There's also the Motorcycle kit, Knight with Stallion and a Diver with Octopus.
The Mega Pack is the largest Stikfas kit. If you're looking for a big vehicle for your figures, there's a Dune Buggy Mega Pack. You can build a small army with the Assault Team Mega pack, which includes four different figures.
If you're looking for variety at a lower price, the Blister Packs feature a lone Stikfas figure waiting to be put together and possibly mixed with parts of other Stikfas kits. There are no accessories or stickers to go with the Blister packs, but they do offer you the option of different colors for your Stikfas collection. Blister Packs are also a good way to take advantage of the many extra accessories that come with other kits.
There are many options available when it comes to the different types of kits, and new kits are produced on a regular basis. Whether you like martial arts, space adventures, westerns or fantasy, there's a little something for everyone. But don't let the names and pictures on the boxes limit your imagination! Many of the pieces from one figure (dragon or robot) will fit with another. You can mix-up colors from different figures, parts of a robot with parts from a dragon, slap a Dinosaur head on an Alpha Male body... it's really up to you! The internet has many sites where Stikfas fans have customized their kits to create their favorite action heroes from television, movies, video games and comic books, or even creating their own bizarre creations.
Stikfas were originally distributed in North America by Hasbro and were found in specialty stores and Toys R Us toystores. The first kit was the Alpha Male Military figure, which came in black, but was later released in a variety of colors (yellow, green, tan). Other early kits included the Delta Boy Extreme, Omega Knight with Stallion, Beta Female Warrior with Dragon, K-9 Policeman and Firefighter. Sometime in 2004, Hasbro stopped their association with Stikfas, therefore making the kits nearly impossible to find. The kits were repackaged and distributed in new color schemes, but without major retail distribution, many of the small specialty shops that had carried the line lost faith in the product and stopped carrying them altogether.
Today, the kits can be found online from a variety of retailers and are occasionally seen in comic stores and other outlets. I think if every retailer actually saw a kids' eyes light-up when they got one for a gift, they would realize what a mistake it is not to carry the entire line. A friend of mine bought a few as a Christmas gift for his nephew and later told me that after his nephew opened all his gifts, the first one he played with was the Stikfas kits... something nobody in his family had ever seen before. And I'll never forget the young boy who saw them for the first time while I was set-up at a flea market. He was at the table for 10 minutes, wide-eyed in amazement to see something the was 'so cool'. 30 minutes later, after they had already left the flea market and gone home, he had dragged his grandmother back to my table so he could get a Ninja kit.
Thankfully, for the diehard fans and potential new fans, new Stikfas kits are still being produced and designed on a regular basis. In 2006, nine new kits were announced, including two new body styles (the G2 Sigma Male and G2 Gamma Male). They may be tough to find, but they're worth the effort, and they make better gifts for kids than a package of socks!
