Stephon Marbury Jersey - The Starbury Jersey
Stephon Marbury (nicknamed Starbury), a point guard currently playing for the New York Knicks, is the fifth most popular player for jersey sales at the end of the 2005-2006 season. Marbury, like Allen Iverson, joined the NBA in 1996. Again like Iverson, Marbury has plenty of talent, although Iverson has had the more consistent career.
Born in Brooklyn on February 20, 1977, Marbury has done some traveling around the league to get back to his hometown. After his college career at Georgia Tech, Marbury first played in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves. (Current rumors are that he may be back there soon.) There, he and Kevin Garnett helped the Timberwolves make the playoffs twice.
Marbury has a history of conflict, though (lately he's been embroiled in a feud with Larry Brown, current coach of the Knicks), and he was traded to the New Jersey Nets and then the Phoenix Suns. The Suns reached the playoffs in 2003, but Marbury had his problems there (most notably with drunk driving), and he was traded to the Knicks in 2004.
Marbury's relationship with the fans has been rocky in New York, as the team has not lived up to expectations under Larry Brown. Still, Marbury has something New York can appreciate--a willingness to speak his mind. Marbury has never shied away from the controversial statements, the self-promotion, or the self-confidence that make an NBA player stand out. Reebok retails its Marbury swingman jersey (in polyester mesh) for about $75. Nike youth swingman jerseys for Marbury generally retail for a little less (closer to $50).
