Fabric yo yo is a hand sewn cute little circle fabric with the gathered pattern on one side .You can use it in many different craft project .
Let me share with you step by step how to make a fabric yoyo quilt . It's fun but it can be very time consuming if you want to make a big project such as yoyo quilt bed sheet.. So, a lot of people prefer to purchase the ready made fabric yoyo where you can save a lot of time and work.
If you cut 4.5" diameter wide. 1/4" for seam allowances along the outside circle. Then the finished yoyo will end up with 2" diameter. Remember always add and extra 1/2" seam allowance for any size of circle pattern.
For example - 4" diameter yoyo pattern will end up with 1.5" finished yoyo
-4.5" diameter yoyo pattern will end up with 2" finished yoyo.
Therefore if you want to make 2" finished yoyo , you should cut a pattern twice of the size . That means 2"x2"=4" diameter plus 1/2" allowances and the total size of the pattern would be 4.5".
Before you get started, it's important to preshrink your fabric to assure that the finished item does not shrink and bleed .
You can sook your fabric overenight in warm water or add in some mild soap if neccessary (hand soap) which helps to take off the excess dye from fabric.
I usually choose to hang the fabric on the drying rag to drip dry, or you can use dryer as well.
