One day in 2006, I was surfing the Ebay when I found a "too good to be true" deal. I'm always skeptical about those, since there tons of scammers waiting for the right fool to fall for these advertisements. In the past, my boyfriend and I had participated in tese time share presentations where they offer you show tickets or for buffets (if you are in Las Vegas), or other outdoors activities (if you are in Hawaii) promising no pressure. Then you have to be for a long time in the presentations (we waisted 4 hours one time in these presentations) that sometimes it doesn't even worth your time and stress of going through the sale's pitch. This time, for some reason, I decided to bid on it.
The package costed me around $32 for four nights in Cancun. I have to admit that I was nervous, so I decided to investigate and learn more about other options (stay, food, etc...) in case of being a scam (you never know!). The first night we stay in the Presidential Continental Hotel by the ocean, absolutely gorgeous. The following four days were at the timeshare hotel near the lake and not the beach. Overall, it was a nice hotel, some areas were under construction, the golf club was by the hotel and it was next to lake, not an ocean view as advertized. We complained about it, and they told us that the hotel in the adverstisement was booked solid however we had access to use the commodities of the hotel (beach area, swimming pool, jacuzzi,...etc). The hotel was isolated from the rest of the areas, and hotels therefore it required one mile of walking and then a public bus to get to the Cancun downtown area or the other "mother" hotel. then we spent about half day for the timeshare presentation. They took us to several parts and commodities of the time share and showed us the different prices for the time share including the boat time share (where as part of the time share commodity we could get a boat for one week), everything for $76K.
The experience was good, cheap stay and worthwhile for the price ($32 for four nights, hard to beat that) and of course we end up not purchasing the time share. Since we watched the presentation for the time share, we didn't have to pay any additional charges for our stay. My recommendation is that read everything in the listing before bidding, I read the listing about 10 times before bidding, and check the feedback. I asked several questions before bidding and I was lucky with this one.
Good luck!
