If you are starting an ecommerce website, becoming an Internet marketer or owning an online business....
Here are a couple of things to consider:
1. Identifying your market.
I am approached so many times by people that have revolutionary ideas.....multi million dollar ideas that no one has ever thought of....a product that every body is going to want because it's so awesome!
The problem is they have absolutely no idea what the supply and demand for their product is.....nor do they have any idea of how much competition exists. Software such as Wordtracker is an excellent resource to test keyword popularity. Wordtracker will show you how many times a keyword phrase is searched in 24 hours as well as how much competition there is. They also provide a KEI (keyword effective index) to help you determine which keywords are best.
You have to identify a niche market and do your homework first to see if you even have a chance to compete.
2. Do you have the attention span to stick with it.
As you begin to study successful online businesses, you will notice success doesn't come over night. It is extremely important that you have a passion an interest in what it is you plan to market. The reason this is so important is because you will be spending a lot of your time updating content on your website, marketing your product etc. Many don't have what it takes to stay the course.....You can outsource some of your work using Elance. Elance is a site where you can request others to create content for you. This can save you time, however the cost of outsourcing many times is worth it. Even when you outsource...you still need to have the focus to continually work on your Internet business....so be sure to choose something you enjoy.
