The purpose of this guide is to help you set up inventory, list, price, and market a new EBAY handbag buisness. If you enjoy shopping, turn your vice into a money-making venture! Here are a few pointers to get you started:
- Your first inclination will be to buy only what YOU like. Remember, you have a HUGE audience with EBAY. A good handbag inventory will include all price ranges and brands.Just make sure the quality is there.
- Buy in multiples - if its a good sale, don't be afraid to buy more than one of the same item. Just make a template, and listing your duplicate item is as simple as clicking on the "sell similar item" button.
- Take advantage of EBAY listing sales. I just listed 23 handbags for 10 cents each!
- Take advantage of Second Chance Offers. If you buy in multiples, you have the opportunity to make a second chance offer to a non-winning bidder. It saves you money (only one listing fee) and time (just describe the item once). You just have to pay the final value fees.
- Make your offer a win-win proposition. Here's an example: you buy inventory at a discount from a department store. Just like any other fashion item, the store needs to sell at discounts to make room for new inventory. I usually buy my handbags at end-of -season deep discounts. A bag with a $150 manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is on sale for 50% off 50% (or $37.50). I offer the bag on EBAY for $50 - a savings of $100 to the buyer and a profit of $12.50 for me (not counting EBAY fees). Doesn't sound like much? Consider this: if your bag is priced right you will have multiple bidders and a higher profit margin. Plus, you get a reputation as a good seller. With volume, this adds up!
- Gallery list -for 35 cents your listing has a photo that attracts more buyers.
- Photography - check out the EBAY tutorial on how best to photograph your item. Keep it simple. Natural light is best, using a plain back drop. The customer doesn't want to see your flower arrangement - just the product.
- Take pictures from multiple angles to show front, back, sides and brand name insignias. It costs jst 10 cents for each additional photo.
- Packaging - pack like a pro. Get free EBAY-branded boxes from the Shipping Resource center. I wrap my bags in white packing paper, available from a hardware store or EBAY. I print my address lables from the computer - no handwriting - for a more professional look
- Don't keep the customer waiting - ship fast and answer emails quickly. Be accessible to customers.
- Returns. Would you buy something you've never seen, knowing you couldn't return it? Offer to accept returns if tags are still intact and the item has not been used. I make it clear that I do not refund shipping charges. You may find that when you re-list the item that it sells for more than the original offer anyway!
- Invest in an EBAY store - low cost, better exposure.
- Good luck on your new EBAY buisness!
