There have been cards made for the Stargate movie, as well as both of the series. If you’re looking to collect Stargate cards here’s a guide to what’s out there.
Stargate Movie.
In 1994 Collect-a Card (no longer in business), produced a card set for the movie starring James Spader and Kurt Russell. The basic set was 100 cards. In addition to the base cards there were 7 promo cards, 12 Adventure insert cards, 8 Video Game cards, 8 character cards and 3 cards that were only available as part of a special mail in offer.
Stargate SG1
Preview Sets. Before issuing the regular trading card sets Rittenhouse Archives produced 3 preview sets for SG1. One for the US, 1 for the UK and 1 for Australia.
Fan Club Set. There was also a 6 card Fan Club set produced exclusively for LightSpeed Fine Art.
Premiere. The SG1 card was was produced by Rittenhouse Archives in 2000. By the time the cards were being made SG1 had already been on the air for several seasons so instead of creating a card set for each year of the show, the initial 72 card base set covered the first 3 seasons of the program. In addition to the base set there were 4 promo cards and the following inserts: Aliens (9 cards), Stars (5 cards), in Motion (6 cards), 4 costume cards and 9 autograph cards. This is the only series that contains a Richard Dean Anderson (Jack O’Neill) Autograph Card. There was also a binder produced for the set.
Season 4. 72 cards make up the base set. There were 2 promo cards and a binder produced for the set. Inserts (or chase cards) for this series include: Dial Us Home (6), Goa’uld Technology (4), Heroes in Action (4), 2 sketch cards, 10 autograph cards and 8 costume cards.
Season 5. 72 cards in the base set. 3 promo cards and a binder were produced. Insert cards for this series include: Wormhole Extreme (9 cards), False Gods (12 cards), Daniel Jackson Tribute (9 cards) Sketch cards (19 cards/artists), 11 autograph cards and 4 costume cards.
Season 6. 72 cards in the base set. 3 promo cards and a binder were produced. Inserts for this series include: Behind the Scenes with Brad Wright (9 cards), In the Line of Duty: Jack O’Neill (9 cards), In the Line of Duty: Samantha Carter (9 cards), Gallery (6 cards), Autographs (15 cards) and Costume cards (4). This marked the first of 2 Stargate series where there were different inserts for the US and International Market. Boxes produced for US retailers contained the O’Neill in the Line of Duty cards while International boxes contained the Carter in the Line of Duty cards.
Season 7. 72 cards in the base set. 4 promo cards and a binder were produced. Inserts for this series include: Behind the Scenes with Teryl Rothery (9 cards), In the Line of Duty: Teal’C (9 cards), In the Line of Duty: Daniel Jackson (9 cards), Dr Fraiser Tribute (2 cards), Casting Call (4 cards), SG1 Team (4 cards), Autographs (18 cards), Costumes (6 cards), Relics (9 cards). Relic cards contain pieces of props from the show. The Jackson in the Line of Duty cards were in International boxes while the Teal’C cards were in US boxes.
Season 8. 72 cards in the base set with each episode getting 3 cards. There was a printing problem with this series and 2 cards were printed as being card #1. One of them is actually card #17. 4 promo cards and a binder were produced. Inserts for this series include: Twisted (10 cards), Personnel Files (9 cards), Kneel Before Your God (2 cards), in Motion cards (7), Autographs (16 cards), Relics (5 cards) and Costumes (7 cards). There was also a Diamond Select Toys promo card that was inserted 1 per box. The in Motion cards are only available buy mailing the UPC code from the bottom of each box to Rittenhouse Archives. While there are 10 Twisted cards only 9 of them were inserted in packs. The final card was only available by collecting enough Rittenhouse Rewards Points (found on the wrapper of each pack) and mailing in to Rittenhouse for the card.
Season 9. 72 cards in the base set. 4 promo cards and a binder were produced. Inserts for this series include: Production Sketches (18 cards), Book of Origin (9 cards), Cast Posters (7 cards), Autographs (17 cards), Costumes (11cards), Relics (4 cards). Each box also contained a promo card for Diamond Select Toys and one for the Stargate Videos.
Trading Card Game. In May 2007 the first Stargate SG1 trading card game was produced by Comic Images. There are a total of 292 cards in this initial set. Cards in the set are either Common, Uncommon, Rare or Ultra Rare.
Stargate Atlantis
Preview Set. Rittenhouse Archives produced 1 preview set for Atlantis.
San Diego Comic Con Promo Set. In 2004 Rittenhouse produced 4 cards that were available only at the San Diego Comic Con. 1 card was given out each day at the SciFi Channel booth.
Season 1. The base set is 63 cards. There were also 5 promo cards and a binder produced for Season 1. Inserts included: Quotable Atlantis (20 cards), Ancient Technology (9 cards), Atlantis Crew (9 cards), Fallen Hero (2 cards), Costumes (11), Autographs (15 cards) and a Rachel Luttrell Autographed Costume Card.
Season 2. 5 Promo cards and a binder were produced for Season 2. The base set is 72 cards. Inserts include: Quotable Atlantis (20 cards), Warriors in Action (9 cards), Atlantis Team (7 cards), in Motion (3 cards), Costumes (5 cards) and Autographs (17 cards).
