Star Trek is the eleventh entry in the Star Trek film series—based on Gene Roddenberry's science fiction franchise. Sometimes referred to as Star Trek XI (the working title being Star Trek 90210), the film received extensive coverage in the entertainment press during 2005 and 2006. In April 2006, after several years of rumor and speculation, Paramount Pictures announced that the film will be produced by Lost co-creators J. J. Abrams (who is also directing the film) and Damon Lindelof, and written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who will also be executive producing along with Bryan Burk and Stratton Leopold. The story revolves around Harvey Bennett/Ron Howard script Star Trek: The Academy Years.
George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) has been selected to provide the special visual effects for Star Trek (2009).The Enterprise (NCC-1701) will appear in the film. In the world of Star Trek the ships and especially The Enterprise(s) are as beloved as the heroes themselves. Since Star Trek (2009) is a prequel it was unclear if the ship would make an appearance. Now we know that we will see Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise in Star Trek (2009). Some version of an Enterprise has appeared in every single Trek film (although the Enterprise A is only shown briefly at the end of STIV, but in Generations you even had two Enterprises: B & D).
According to the latest issue of Starbust Magazine, George Takei will be appearing in the new Star Trek movie as Hikaru Sulu of course.
J.J. Abrams is no dummy. With the future of the Star Trek film franchise hinging on his fresh-faced reboot, the Cloverfield producer knew the best time to debut Star Trek XI's first teaser would be the date he'd been mercilessly drilling into moviegoers' brains for months: 01-18-08
To that end, Cloverfield viewers were treated to the Trek teaser over the weekend -- but if you weren't one of the millions who flocked to theaters to see a headless Statue of Liberty, don't fret: Along with the official Trek XI site, the teaser has surfaced online for all to see. It's a teaser, so the less you go in expecting, the more you'll probably enjoy it; that being said, these few seconds of footage definitely make the most of themselves. And while you're at the Trek site, you may wish to follow the instructions laid out by ComingSoon:
In addition to the new trailer coming online in High Definition quality, the official website has added a red blinking light to the right of the words "UNDER CONSTRUCTION," which, if clicked on, takes you to a new viral site with the URL NCC-1701.com. It features four cameras of the shipyard which you can bring into focus by changing the frequency.

If you let the page sit long enough, the "offline" camera on the page will show a corridor for just a second!
