I was looking for a way to start my own studio and then I stumbled upon SP3700 flash kit form Square Perfect. I thought that this kit was perfect and it seemed to include a lot of things, or so I thought. I paid $425 for the kit from EBay and in 6 days it was at my door. As soon as I unpacked it that’s when everything went wrong, one of the flash heads was broken (the flash power output was rating from left to right without stopping). Thanks to Discount Tommy I got the replacement, but then when I got the replacement it was broken too (The dimmer option and flash output could not be adjusted). Well maybe the third time is a charm I thought, but when I received it, the flash bulb was burned out.
Please note that return is impossible with Discount Tommy since you will have to pay 20% restocking fee plus $100+ for shipping back the kit.
So here I am 3 month later spending $40+ in shipping costs plus another $30 for the new flash bulb and still have not used my new studio even once. What a bummer! As you can tell I am really disappointed.
Here is my final thought on Square Perfect studio flash kit… The studio has a lot of stuff that you don’t really need at all (most of it is garbage anyway). Most of the stuff is of very poor China quality. The lights themselves are severely underpowered, so taking full body portraits is impossible. The light output from the flash is anything but constant; it varies like crazy from one shot to another. If you buy this kit you will soon discover after buying it that this kit is “jack of all trades, master of none”. STAY AWAY FROM ANY SQUARE PERFECT PRODUCTS, PERIOD!
Learn from my mistakes... If you want to start a studio buy 2 good lights (don’t get those cheapo EBay ones), buy good background stand, and one muslin. Once you master the basic concept of lighting keep adding to your kit whatever you need. You might spend a little more upfront but trust me it will worth every penny of it.
