Spotting fake Juicy Couture handbags - part two

Welcome to part two of my Juicy guide!

Here are the rest of my tips to avoid fake Juicy Couture handbags on ebay:

8) Know your bags! I've seen fake styles advertised on ebay that haven't even been made by Juicy - ever. This happens even more frequently with clothing than it does with bags, but I've definitely seen it in both. If you are interested in buying a particular bag (this is easier with the new styles), find one that is authentic (at a Nordstrom's or a Saks or wherever) and look at the bag. Check the proportions, which pockets the bag has, the color of its hardware (Juicy gold hardware tends to be a bit brushed, while fake hardware is generally more shiny), whether or not it has metal feet, whether or not it comes with a fob, etc. Some bags have different pockets inside (i.e. the Getaway tote has a small pull-out 'Shop!' bag instead of a built-in pocket) and some do not come with fobs (like the Glamour Flap bag). Some sellers do sell bags from sample sales, which have not been produced and may not ever be released. I have two bags like this myself, and they are authentic, but they are few and far between. A tip for those looking to buy an authentic Baby Fluff bag - the small hook catch on the inside used to hold the bag bunched in the center should have a heart on it - it's not a plain clasp.

9) Generally, if you're trying to avoid a fake, the easiest bags to shop for are the newest ones (although they're also the most expensive). It takes counterfeiters a while to come up with, manufacture, and distribute fake bags. Once the fakes begin to flood the market, it's a bit more difficult. If you scan listings frequently, you'll begin to notice when fake models of certain bags come out, so you'll know to be on the lookout. However, a large proportion of fakes may make it easier for you to get a good deal on an authentic bag of the same style if you're vigilant about details.

Some of the more recent fakes I've seen coming out:

Juicy's cherry print looks like this:  and as far as I know, they only ever made cherry bags with red and yellow trim - not brown.

There are many, many more fakes out there - these are just a few examples.

*Note: I've been getting questions about the techtraders website. In my opinion, all of the photos posted on the site are of fake bags. Therefore, I would assume that the bags they are selling are also fake. I would NOT recommend buying any Juicy from this site! There are a lot of 'discount' designer websites that are really selling fake merchandise. Beware of them!*

10) Check your seller's feedback. In my opinion, private feedback is extremely questionable. What are you trying to hide? Also scan positive comments for content - some people are afraid to leave negative feedback in fear of retaliation. Feedback like 'seller returned bag when I had a problem' or 'fast shipping, but product not exactly as described' can be red flags. When in doubt, don't bid! And always pay through PayPal - then you can try to get your money back if your bag turns out to be fake through ebay and PayPal.

11) I would be wary of sellers who advertise their products with only pictures from known retail websites. If there isn't a picture of the actual item you're buying, you can't analyze it for signs that it may be fake. Some sellers do this only out of convenience, since it is much less work to borrow a picture from Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus online than it is to take all your own photos, but don't be afraid of asking sellers for additional photos! Some sellers may also pull a 'bait and switch' - using photos of an authentic bag in their listing, then sending you a fake bag when you win an auction. It's never a bad idea to get a seller to say in writing that the bag photographed is the actual bag you will get if you win the auction, if that is indeed the case.

12) This isn't really related to fakes, it's just a tip for Juicy shoppers on ebay. It's beneficial for you to know the retail prices of the bags you're interested in, and what season certain colors are from. It may take some research, but you can figure these things out, and it will tell you if the seller could have purchased the item on sale somewhere or whatever, and is then trying to make some money on ebay when you could get the bag yourself at a sale price. The same bag may be made in different shades for different seasons - the 'brand-new 2005 release' may actually be an older bag in a similar color. The same thing goes for clothing as well. I've seen many sellers selling new bags for way over retail, claiming the bags were completely sold out when I'd just seen one at Nordstrom's the other day - check it out for yourself and you might save yourself some money. Also, a seller may claim that the bag is 'completely sold out, and not available anywhere!,' even if it's an old bag. That's the reason it isn't in stores - it's from three seasons ago. You can get great deals on these bags, just don't get too gung-ho because a seller warns you that this is the last bag of this style you'll ever see, although some bags are rarer than others. Sellers also inflate prices on bags that have just been released by Juicy, or lie about the retail price in their listings, counting on the fact that customers may not have checked out the retail prices for themselves - do your homework, and you can avoid these listings! I also very recently saw a seller warning customers that Baby Fluff bags with round rings attaching the handles to the rest of the bag are fake, which is not necessarily true. The new Fluff and Baby Fluff bags have oval rings attaching them, but authentic bags from past seasons do have round rings. The Baby Fluff is one of the most copied bags I've seen, so do be cautious, but just because a bag has different features from the ones currently in stores does not necessarily mean it's fake - it could just be from an older season.

Although I am not employed by Juicy or affiliated with them in any way, I am an avid consumer of their products (I probably own at least 10 Juicy bags and many clothing items as well).

I do occasionally list Juicy Couture items as well as other clothing or accessories. I guarantee that everything I sell is absolutely authentic - I never lie to my buyers, and I don't think anyone else should either!

Thanks for reading my guide! I hope it helped. Please also feel free to contact me with suggestions on tips I may add to this.  - Graciemaple
