What is a PSL?

A Permanent Seat License or PSL is a one time payment that gives a sports fan the right to buy season tickets for a particular seat at a stadium for a specific amount of time.  This time may vary, but many PSL are for a lifetime as long as the owner continues to make their yearly ticket purchases for the venue.  PSLs are becoming the trend across the US for sports teams and their stadiums.

The primary reason sporting venues offer PSLs is that the money that was paid for the particular seats would be used to pay the debt incurred during the construction of the stadium or arena.  The PSL allows the fans to have ownership of his or her seat for that team, though some feel that this is another way for sports teams to drain more money out of the fans.  There is usually a waiting list to get season tickets and a PSL from a team.

Buying a PSL on EBAY

It is important when buying a PSL on ebay that you check for a couple of items.  Personally purchasing my PSL from ebay and having a satisfying experience, I had to go through the fake sellers before finding the true sale.

When buying a PSL, go to your team’s website and look at the cost of the PSL in conjunction with where it is located along with the ticket prices.  This little bit of research will save you a headache when looking at the PSL on ebay.  The top, outside sections of the stadium are usually the cheapest in the stadium for PSL and ticket prices.  When a seller lists the PSL online, they should put the section and the row of the PSL.  Check with your team’s website to make sure this matches and if it is the view you want.  See if the seller is over charging the section.  If the team is doing well, higher cost is expected, but don’t let them take you to the cleaners because your team is doing well.

If you see a PSL in the lower section, 50-yard line, for $200, then this should be a flag that the seller may be trying to scam you.  It is possible to find a deal on a PSL below the cost of the asking price, but when it is hundreds below, approach with caution on the purchase.

Next, you want to contact the seller.  See if the seller responds.  If they do, ask them for their contact information so you can talk to them to find out more about the seats.  Ask about the transfer cost of the PSL.  Most PSLs going from one owner to another requires a fee, and if they do not know about it, it is probably fake.  Also, ask for their seat ID number and Name to confirm the ownership with the stadium.  It takes about 10 minutes to do, but it will be worth it not to get ripped off.

Another question to ask is if the PSL you are buying comes with the current season’s tickets for the cost.  You may pay over the cost to get your favorite teams tickets, especially if they are doing well, but the current owner may keep the tickets as part of the deal.  It is the little details that pay off.

And the last thing, as for everything on ebay, is the sellers rating.  Take a step back in your excitement in your purchase to see how their history online has been.  PSLs are not cheap, and for a seller to sell a somewhat intangible good does leave it to question.  Make sure the seller is trustworthy.
