SPOTTING FAKE CHRISTIAN DIOR FRAGRANCES
I have a friend who recently purchased four factory sealed bottles of one of her mother's favorite fragrances (from a local vendor, not Ebay), Hypnotic Poision, for a mere $35 each and thought she had received a fantastic deal on the perfume. I am a collector of perfumes and perfume bottles, and her news immediately concerned me because of the slew of stories I have read online about fake designer fragrances. I expressed my concerns to her and she had me take a look at the bottles. We discovered that the perfumes she bought are indeed fakes. I am not sure how we are going to handle this or if we have a chance to get her money back, but at the very least I wanted to get the word out that another Christian Dior perfume, along with J'adore and Miss Dior Cherie, has a fake version being sold both offline and online. I have added photos of the fake bottle and box. Here are the warning signs that the Hypnotic Poison you purchased may be a fake:
1) The too good to be true price. Christian Dior fragrances command a high wholesale price. Vendors cannot possibly profit selling the real thing at prices below wholesale.
2) Look for typos in the ingredients list on the box. My first indication that the bottles were fakes was the mispelling of the word 'Fragrance'. It was spelled 'Fragpance' on the ingredients list.
3) Very small print that appears to be a foreign language other than French or English on the base of the box. It is covered by the folds of the cellophane when the box is sealed.
4) Particles in the fragrance. Upon close inspection under a bright light, we saw several small particles floating in the perfume.
5) The glass of the bottle is poor quality. We found several small, black rough spots on the glass and places where some of the red had chipped off. Christian Dior is one of the finest designers in the world and is not going to house a fragrance in a poor quality bottle.
It is such a travesty that these counterfeits are being sold and people are spending their hard-earned money on this garbage. If you have had an experience such as this, please get the word out. The only way to stop this from happening is to educate others on how to spot these fakes and prevent others from being scammed. Thank you for taking the time to read this guide and I hope it has been helpful.
