The Sony EVO-250 HI-8 video player/recorder still has many fans, including many professional users. I'm a former deputy sheriff and buy and sell radar, and in-car video systems on eBay. I see a number of Sony EVO-250 recorders being sold on eBay, that were part of  police in-car video systems made by Decatur Electronics, and McCoy's Law Line.

These EVO-250's have been modified, the Sony battery connection has been removed, and a D-connector was added. This allowed the EVO-250 to receive power and commands from the systems control panel. There are two types of modification, one has only the D-connector, there are connections for power, video in/out, and the normal controls like stop, play, record etc. You will need some electronics knowledge to figure out the  connections.

On the other modification, the Sony battery connection has been removed, a D-connector was also added, as well as power, and RCA plugs. The power connector mod allows the ues of 12V, rather than the EVO-250's normal 7.5V. There are also RCA plugs for video, and R/L audio. This modification enhances the EVO-250 for my uses, the 12V mod allows easy mobile use.
