Be aware.  I purchased a rebuilt 350 c.i. alluminum headed motor from "Scott" under the Sons of Thunder name, otherwise known as Boenerges Racing,  located in Irving, Texas.  The Ebay auction was a best offer auction, which I had won.  After spending a full hour on the phone with "Scott", and several other smaller conversations, I had felt there was some integrity in Scott, I felt I was getting a fair deal with a guarantee.  I used my poor judgement and sent a cashiers check for my fully guaranteed engine. I even went as far to ask that special attention is paid to the assembly of this motor as it was my second motor and the last of my funds. Scott eagerly agreed and that would not be a problem "We have only had one motor come back, and that was a shipping issue". "I used to be the Sherriff here in Irving, our engine building took off, so here I am" Oh, and the greatest tag line "Thanks for your Business, and GOD BLESS".  Those self proclaimed Christians get me every time. Makes you ill just thinking about it.  

The motor arrived, everything was in order.  Upon starting the motor for the first time, it did not sound right, It was difficult to time and was leaking oil profusely from the timing chain cover.  I could not even let it run for a 20 minute break in.  I phoned Scott (972)834-6302, no answer, left a very polite message. Phoned again, left a message.  Phoned again, keep in mind, when I was purchasing my motor Scott answered every time.  Phoned again, 2 weeks have rolled by, got his sister, seemed Scott just had a child and was not available.  If you get in contact with the "PEGGS" in the guide above, it seems "Scott Hughes" had a child with their situation as well. That's alot of births in one year. No return call.

So, Story continues, on my brand new assembled engine, drained and removed the radiater.  I removed the March pully system, the Water Pump, and the timing cover. About 5 hours of work. On a new motor! What did I learn? 

1. Gear drive was not clearanced, did not even fit under the cover (major oil leak)
2. Idler and drive gears on the Gear Drive were assembled backwords.  Could not time, sounded like a Mopar turning over.
3. Discovered my oil pan was already leaking from the back pan bolts. Very dissapointing for such a large investment. Motor needs to be pulled back up to repair this.  Major work on Z28 w/ show paint. Pulling motors is always dangerous with that kind of paint investment. 
4.  No problem, it's guaranteed, right?  Apparantly it is not if you live 3 states away.  I phoned, left another very polite message.  Phoned again, and got his sister, left another message.  I have left over 8 messages asking for a return call to discuss the issues with my "Guaranteed" motor. The last message I was very explicit.  Never a return call. I am working with Ebay and the BBB of Texas, I am a fair person, and do not expect a new motor to be shipped (it would be nice) but  I would ask that I take the car to a certified mechanic, the pan and the cover are fixed, and Sons of Thunder picks up the tab, fair.  Thanks Scott for taking my $2400.00, thanks for lying to me and my family.  Most of all Scott, thanks for the con job you gave me on the telephone. Beware of Boenerges racing, there are too many ethical shops out there to mess with them after you have read my experience.  Feel free to call me at (402) 669-8888.  
5. 06/16/07 Scott has phoned me, we have agreed to have the motor repaired by a certified mechanic.  This way if the timing cover leaks the responsibility will be off Scott and on the repair shop. Tommorrow (06/17/07) I will phone Scott with the estimate. Scott has agreed to send a check for the expense of repair, within reason.  This is all I could ask, I will keep you updated. 
6. 09/11/07 Threatening email sent / Threatening legal action. I guess that is what it takes. Scott finally returned my call, with much attitude. Scott has sent me a check for $155.00 to cover the labor.  The oil pan gasket and the timing cover gasket needed replacement.  I have not seen it it has cleared or not, wouldn't surprise me either way.If you know anything of replacing these parts Scott the Christian engine builder has gotten off easy. I knew I was lucky to get anything at all. 
7. Check cleared.  Received an email from a gentlman who read this guide "after" he purchased from Scott Sons of Thunder.  Same deal, 350 c.i. motor. Same Scam problems.  Only difference is he tore his motor down.  Found it was assembled with used parts, ( you read that right USED) had 305 c.i. heads. Dip stick broke off in the block.  More than happy to copy anyone on his email, he is more than happy to discuss with you.
8. Motor leaks are fixed, engine runs pretty good.  Took it to a professional Dyno last week.  I purchased a 350 c.i. alluminum headed small block with an estimated 450 horspower.   Professionally tuned with an Edelbrock Air Gap RPM manifold, Demon 625 cfm carb.  Davis Unified ignition, MSD box,headers, good fuel blah, blah....all new and all good stuff..... Engine created 277 horse at the fly wheel, figure a few miles for break in.  I will be lucky to see 300 horse, hopefully before it blows up.Not so impressive for the advertised 450 Horse. I have the Dyno sheets to prove this and am happy to share. Send your stories, I am more than happy to add them to this running thread.
9.  You get what you pay for people, don't make my mistake and cut corners with this guy. There are far too many reputable engine builders to mess with this. If you do, good luck to you, you must have deep pockets for repairs.  
10. Just received another call from a gentlman in Minnesota. Same song, same dance. $3200.00 stolen, no motor received. I could only wish I had this info when I purchased.  Don't do it. With this individuals permission I will gladly provide his name and number
11. Another satisfied (not) customer in Minesota just phoned. Name and number available with his permission.  Same deal.  Stay away people.  Just stay away from Sons of Thunder. How do we shut this guy down?
12. Just sent in.  You know, I have to ask, how long is Ebay going to allow this to continue? How long will they continue to ignore an individual that is using their site as Fraud? Come on Ebay, step up, wake up, man up.  Per Minnesota...."CRAIGS list is looking better all the time". Check out bullet point 13 for this individuals experience with Scott and Sons Of Thunder, Ebay, where does it end?
13.  DO YOU HAVE ANY CONTACT DETAILS FOR SONS OF THUNDER OR SCOTT-FULL NAMES, ADDRESSES, PHONE NUMBERS, ECT...?WON AN ENGINE FROM THEM IN AN AUCTION BACK IN JUNE, SENT MY MONEY-NO MOTOR!
    SUPRISE SUPRISE. THE PHONE THEY GAVE ME WAS DISCONNECTED AND THEY WONT RETURN ANY E-MAILS.

14. Anyone interested in a Class Action Lawsuit, interested in a trip to Texas. Anyone bring legal experience to the table? I am up for arranging a conference call to discuss. Unfortunately Scott counts on us as individuals across the Nation to not not add up to much. Consider this, togethor we equal Tens of Thousands of dollars Fraudulantly stolen from us. Now if you notice, Sons of Thunder has a few crate motors for sale.  Know that the BBB of Irving will verify there is no longer has an active phone # or a  business address for Sons of Thunder.  Going to purchase a motor from them?  Thank you Ebay for allowing these guys to continue selling on your site.
