Here are some of the most talked about books of the season and my opinion of them :
1. Internal Combustion - Joyce Maynard - Internal Combustion - A true crime tale of a woman who murdered her husband, pitting her sons against one another. Written by a noted author who interjects her own views about her failed marriage into the story, questioning where "normal" rage ends and "murderous" rage begins.
2. Josie and Jack by Kelly Braffet - Josie and Jack - If you like spooky, creepy stories (think Shirley Jackson) this psychological thriller could be perfect. Starting out with a brother and sister isolated from the rest of the world, it leads to one horrorific climax. The author's gift is making the characters compelling, if dysfunctional.
3. One Good Turn - Kate Atkinson - One Good Turn - Starting from a case of road rage, this novel explores how each witness comes to be connected to each other and the twists and turns are enough to keep anyone riveted!
4. Roald Dahl's Book of Ghost Stories - Roald Dahl - This is a collection of 14 stories, after the author actually went thorugh over 700 stories to pick his favorites. If you can't get this one, find another spooky tale by him. Tis the season....Halloween.
5. For sports fans there is Johnny U: The life and TImes of Johnny Unitas, for those who are fans of this player. Johnny U
6. Photography buffs will have a field day with Elliot Erwitt's Personal Best, a collection of photos - Elliot Erwitt
So curl up with a good book this Fall!
