Soap Making Facts & Information : Adding Scents to Base
What kind of scents:
Pure Essential Oils from a trusted source is the best. Not all Essential Oils should be applied directly to the skin. Carefully research before adding oils to soaps.
Many Herbs and Spices will also add a scent to your soap. Lavender Buds, especially when ground are a wonderful choice for texture, color and scent. Ground, dried Lemon, Grapefruit and Orange Peel will do the same. Very finely ground Cinnamon is another beautiful choice for adding color, texture and scent.
Never consider using perfumes as a means of adding scent to your soaps. They don't last. They often discolor the base and will not do a satisfactory job of scenting soaps.
Some flower petals and leaves such as Rosemary and Rose can add a hint of scent to soap.
But once again, the first and best choice is carefully selected Pure Essential Oil from a trusted source. Some suggested scents are: Lavender; Lemongrass; almost any Citrus; Peppermint; Eucalyptus; Camphor; Tea Tree; Rose; Rosemary to name a few.
As always, remember to save some soap for yourself and Enjoy the Ahhhhhhhs
