The world of French Imports. What's not to love? Catimini provides us with a refreshing and unique approach to childrens wear here in the USA with their bright colors, soft fabrics, and unique "bonus" pieces (like the reversible pants and shirts).
But did you know that in France, Catimini is very similar to what Carter's is to us? It is everywhere, and it is reasonably priced. It is the steep import taxes and shipping costs that turn them into $75-$250 outfits for us - not to mention that they are pretty exclusive to small boutiques.
So you love their stuff, but paying $50-$175 for a USED outfit on eBay getting to you?
Here's a few other French imports you may want to consider before spending the dough, that everyone has NOT discovered...
MARESE - very similar to Catimini for girls with the bright, fun dresses, skirt sets and tights for girls of all sizes.
ELIANE ET LENA - harder to find, but soft, whymsical and unique - their 100% cotton dresses and sets are to die for.
IKKS - newer brand with a slightly more modern twist
JEAN BOURGET - They have some of the fun stuff like Catimini, but their basics are to die for, too.
PAMPOLINA - This one is not French, but bold and fun, ranging somewhere between Catimini and Oilily. Their outerwear stands the test.
LILI GAUFRETTE - softer, more feminine styles (brother brand is MARCEL ET LEON). Again, great basics.
KENZO - A lot of the brights, dresses with tights in neat cuts. Sometimes more contemporary.
These are just a few of the good ones that ARE out there but aren't being tapped. I will continue to add more, and am open to looking into recommended brands!
