Snakes On a Plane- All About Snakes on a Plane
Even before the film Snakes on a Plane was released, it began generating tremendous buzz online. Starring Samuel L. Jackson, it is an action thriller that takes place--as its name implies--on a plane. Although the title may seem a little too much "on the nose," it struck a chord with a number of fans worldwide, who have been building anticipation towards its official release on August 18th.
Directed by David R. Ellis, Snakes on a Plane tells the story of a couple of FBI agents escorting a mafia member to court. During their flight, an assassin sneaks a case of venomous snakes on board. The container has a time-release system that frees the snakes once the plane reaches a certain altitude. The rest of the film involves battling the snakes and protecting the witness from their attack.
How has a film that isn't released created so much excitement among fans? The Internet is in large part responsible. Its premise, title, and lead actor have also played a significant role. Nevertheless, everything from posters to pins and t-shirts have become hot commodities. There was even an uproar in mid-2005, during the film's shoot, when producers tried to change the film's title. Fans won out when Samuel L. Jackson intervened and kept the name that now emblazons so many items.
The buzz surrounding Snakes on a Plane has been such that the studio releasing it, New Line, decided to add five additional days of shooting. This allowed more action to be pumped into the film, taking it from a PG-13 to an R rating. There's a good chance that the Snakes on a Plane DVD will also become a hot item when released by the end of the year.
