When I first began buying on Ebay, I wondered at the item descriptions that said the item came from "a non-smoking" seller. Could that actually make a difference? Being a NON-SMOKER, I am conscientious about picking places to go that do not allow smoking. I don't like leaving a place and having to go home and immediately put my clothes in the washer. After getting my first Ebay package from a smoker, I realized what the draw was in buying from a non-smoking seller. If I won't go places that smell like smoke, why would I want to invite that smell home???
Many smokers who sell on Ebay don't realize that those smells attach themselves to much more than just fabric. The packaging from a smoking seller almost always reeks! I have walked up my front steps and smelled smoke from the package that was left by the postman. I've received items that I left outside for days to attempt to "freshen" them. It's not rude to ask a seller if they are a non-smoker or come from a non-smoking environment. I think buyers have a right to know that as well as if the item is scratched or broken. I have on occasion broken my own rule and bought from a smoker, but I always swear I won't do it again. Now I keep a list to allow myself the option to buy or not, with regard to the smell. For those sellers who care about return business, I would just like to offer that anything that can hold moisture (paper, boxes, foam, cloth, styrofoam peanuts, bubblewrap, and even plastic bags) will absorb the smells of smoke. I am not on a crusade to stop anyone from smoking. I'd just like to point out that the smell of smoke in your packages does influence your future sales.
