I started out by buying a lot of colored cotton thread on Ebay. I found a large lot of about 15 balls of colored cotton thread in many colors. Vivid blues, pinks, reds, greens, and a variegated Christmas colored red, green and white. You can also get lots of fine baby yarns and 3-ply yarns to make handmade Barbie, Skipper or Bratz doll clothes. I think with the colored cotton thread for knitting or crochetting the cotton thread is a more polished look that lasts longer and keeps it's shape better. Handwashing is still recommended because the drier will shrink most yarns and cotton threads, even the acrylic shrink some. I started out using the colored cotton thread because it gives the crochetting a more professional and polished look then yarn does. I used a small tiny crochett hook so the stitches are all more professional looking. These are bright colored and Christmas colored poncho's. They look really cute on the dolls, it is hard to get a good picture with a scanner or camera because it makes the poncho look flat.

These poncho's hats, and scarves make nice Christmas presents for the 5-8 year old girls. They love having winter outfits for Skipper Barbie and the Bratz dolls. The bright colors and patterns are real popular with the girls too.

They are nice for displaying dolls too, although that is a little hard to show with a camera or a scanner it tends to make them look flat and not as nice as they really do.

The children seem to love the overly big hats for the Bratz doll with the skinny little scarves they match the doll itself with the thin bodies and the larger sized head.

Cotton thread  Here you can find the colored cotton thread used to make doll clothes that are colorful and very petty. I usually look for the individual sellers instead of the stores where you have to pay alot of shipping. That enables you to sell at a cheaper rate then the stores where you have to pay alot of shipping because a lot of the thread is coming from another country and they don't seem to have our global priority shipping available.

Crochet Cotton thread More links to colored cotton threads.

Beads and designs  I have found many different beads and flowers with beads and other designs that would be cute on the handmade doll clothes. I don't use these on mine because I like the traditional poncho's. We have another lady here on Ebay who does and her poncho's are adorable with little flowers and designs on them.

Beads  More links to beads which you can you to decorate the doll clothes.

Skipper and Barbie Poncho's and Tams  Here are some examples of handmade Barbie and Skipper doll clothes.

Hand Knit Barbie and Skipper clothes  These are beautiful hand knit handmade Barbie and Skipper clothes. Really pretty and classic!

Hand made Barbie clothes  More styles and types of handmade doll clothes. They are all very different types and styles. From hand knitted elegant outfits to the cute little skipper doll clothes.

I made several poncho's at first, using my vintage Skipper doll for a pattern, since the 60's 70's and 80's Skipper's were all about this size. I made them longer like the poncho's are made for the younger children. Then I made a tam to match the poncho. I found out by trying it on my Barbie that it fit Barbie perfectly to be a modern poncho the girls were all wearing or as a shawl over an evening gown. It suited both perfectly this way. I like making both, the very young girls love the traditional skipper poncho's and the older girls like the popular shorter Barbie poncho's.

By buying the colored cotton thread off Ebay in big lots or new used lots, I could buy it cheaper even including the cost of postage and handling. So I could offer these as Handmade New poncho's and tam's and keep the price down so it was still cheaper even with shipping and handling then buying a new Barbie outfit.

It didn't take long and I sold two, one dress I made like Vintage Skipper's and a poncho and tam. The woman I sold the poncho and tam liked it alot. I found other links like those above that have hand knitted clothes done with small needles that are very good, they look very pretty. She has made some classic styles for Barbie doll that are simple but very pretty. Now I have sold quite a few and the last one I sold I had a woman order three at once. They are really cute for display too.

I since have made more poncho's for Bratz dolls too. I hope to sell more around Christmastime. I made a few dozen up ahead of time for the holidays. It is still possible to make handmade garments and sell them. Here is a picture of the plain dress with plain skirt and the sun hat for Skipper. These are the more traditional Skipper original patterned after the 1963 dresses.

Crochetted Bratz Handmade clothes  Here are examples of handmade Bratz doll clothes. I like making these for the Bratz doll the colorful poncho's and the scarfs in the pastels are cute on the Bratz dolls. The tam hat is a little oversized keeping with the theme of the Bratz dolls, they have a good sized pom pom on the top of each hat.

The scarves and tam hats with Pom pom on top are big and a little oversized which match the Bratz dolls, they have tiny bodies with larger heads and wear clothes that are big and shoes that are big. So the Larger tams with large pom pom ontop with a long skinny scarf is just the thing for the Bratz doll to wear. These sets are really cute in a little of the oversized hats and really skinny scarves made just to fit the Bratz dolls body and style. They are colorful and stylish for now days. They are the perfect for wintertime clothes for Bratz.

I plan to make some in the near future that are made in off white with colorful beads, and maybe some that look like Indian type beaded poncho's. The bead work is really impressive on the crochetted colored and off white thread. I included links to beads and other designs to put on your poncho's and dresses. I haven't gotten this far yet but I do plan to make some modern poncho's with beads and designs, possibly a little shorter poncho's. This is an example of one of the dresses I made for Skipper. They are made plain like the vintage Skipper dresses with a little more design on the bottom skirt part of the dress.
