After cleansing/toning you need to treat the skin.  Here's where you decide what about your skin needs tweeking - and so, here is where your skincare regimen becomes personal.  You can use 0-3 treatments on your skin (in the AM and PM - then can be the same or different).  If you want to use 2 or 3 and have questions about the order they are applied then send me a message.  Here are a couple paragraphs explaining two common skincare concerns (acne and large pores/blackheads), just past each is a description of the available Avon products.  On average these products will last 3 months, the Clearskin products will last 2 months.  There is an ingredient definition list in another guide.

ACNE

  • Acne is not caused by excess oil!  It can be, but not because the oil "clogs" your pores like we think of oil doing.  Oil attracts the dead skin faster, that will then clog your pores.  Dry skin can also have clogged pores.  If you have dry skin and you use a drying ingredient to treat pimples then you will have a disaster.  That is the main reason why "teen" acne products are different than "adult".  Teenage acne control is usually aimed at also controlling large amounts of oil, the acne is the same.
  • Once the dead skin clogs the pore bacteria start multiplying inside.  Then your body gets wind that it is being attacked by bacteria and wham...  you've got an immune reaction.  Redness, sometimes soreness, and eventually white pus (that's the macrophages destroying what is left of the bacteria).  This takes 3 weeks!  All regimens should be used for at least 3 weeks before determining of they worked for you.  The two types of acne (blackheads and whiteheads) should not be treated the same.
  • Acne treatments should focus on clearing dead skin and keeping the skin supple.  Many acne regimens focus on drying out the pimple.  This will give more immediate results, but it will hurt the skin, making it much more likely that it will return.  You may have experienced this before with a product that worked wonders - but one to three months later it stopped working.  Somebody may have even told you that your skin "got used" to it so you have to switch for a while then go back.  Not true...  Those products damaged your skin and your skin is in much worse condition now than it ever was.  That is why it no longer works.
  • "Spot" treatments can be used in a jam.  Don't use them all over your face!  Using it will make it more likely that you break out in that spot again - but it will get rid of that pimple faster.

Skin Clearing:

  • Clearskin Color Changing Mask - absorbs oil & deep cleans pores.  Changes color when it is time to remove. Use 2-3 times/week (not on the same day as another mask)  Retails for $4.29
  • ANEW Clinical 2 Step Facial Peel - Use every other day.  Intense exfoliation, skin feels softer, appears smoother, refines clarity, unclogs pores.  Continued use diminishes discolorations, blotchiness, & dramatically smoothes skin's appearance even sun-damaged.  Works great on large pores/blackheads.  2 steps.  Step 1 contains 10% glycolic acid, papaya & pineapple extract.  Step 2 contains green tea, cucumper, chamomile, marine, & shitake mushroom extracts.  Retails for $32.00
  • Clearskin Cleansing Pads - Loosens dirt.  Contains 2% salicylic acid.  Retails for $4.29
  • Mark Cucumber Balancing Mini Facial - Clay mask rinses with warm water.  Absorbs oil, balances, & soothes.  Retails for $4.

  • & beta hydroxy acids.  Retails for $9.50
  • Clearskin Overnight Blemish Treatment - treats acne breakouts & improves skin's appearance  Retails for $5.29
  • Clearskin Invisible Blemish Corrector - treats & visually diffuses blemishes  Retails for $5.29

LARGE PORES AND/OR BLACKHEADS

  • Blackheads and large pores usually come together.  This is because the pores are larger, so oil and dead skin sits inside of them.  This becomes a blackhead and stretches the pore even larger.   There is no immune reaction with blackheads - you are seeing the clogged pore.
  • There are quick fixes to shrink pores that will last a couple of hours.  A great fix before a big day is to use lemon juice.  Cut a lemon in half and rub the cut side on your face (or squeeze the juice out of the lemon and use a cotton ball).  This will noticably shrink your pores temporarily - then apply your makeup and it will go on more smoothly.  I wouldn't do this everyday though - it will damage your skin if it is used a lot.
  • Treatment for large pores and blackheads will take 2-3 months before a true difference can be noted.  Unfortunately, there is no way around that.  It is a constant battle between you and your pores!  You clear them out and the next day dead skin will have crept back in then you clear them out again.  They will slowly shrink because they are not being stretched by a large amount of material, but it will take time.  The smaller they get, the less space for material to settle in.  It will seem like nothing is happening and then all of a sudden you will notice leaps and bounds (usually at the 2-3 month mark).  You should see significant results in 4-6 months - hang in there, it's worth it!

Skin Clearing/Cleaning:

  • Sweet Finish Sugar Scrub - Gentle exfoliating scrub that leaves the skin feeling smooth.  Contains pure brown sugar.  Retails for $8.00
  • Lemon Peel Purifying Mini-Facial - Peel-off mask that deep cleans.  Retails for $4.

Texture (the most important group for large pores/blackheads):

  • ANEW Clinical 2 Step Facial Peel - Use every other day.  Intense exfoliation, skin feels softer, appears smoother, refines clarity, unclogs pores.  Continued use diminishes discolorations, blotchiness & dramatically smoothes skin's appearance, even sun-damaged.  Works great on large pores/blackheads.  Two steps.  Step one contains 10% glycolic acid, papaya & pineapple extract.  Step two contains green tea (antioxidant), cucumber, chamomile, marine, & shitake mushroom extracts.  Retails for $32.00
  • ANEW Clinical Micro-Exfoliant - Use every other day, not on the same day as the facial peel.  Refines, retexturizes, and improves clarity.  Contains aluminum oxide microbead exfoliants (the same as professional microdermabrasion), mallow extract, wheat flour lipids, avocado oil (skin softeners), Vitamin C, and Panthenol (moisturizer).  Great for large pores/blackheads.  Retails for $32.00
  • Clearskin Cleansing Pads - Loosens dirt.  Contains 2% salicylic acid.  This will eventually give similar results as the facial peel, only it will take longer and has to be used everyday.  If you also deal with whiteheads then it is a great option.  Retails for $4.29
