Got ya thinking for a minute didn't I? Ok Guys, I'm talking about Tanzanite so get your minds out of the gutter. I am often asked about what the best sizes of tanzanite are to collect. Yet again today I was asked that very same question, here is my response!
GIA suggests that single stones over 10 cts are all the way to go. My suggestion is anything over 7 cts should do you good. The one thing that I advise all my clients of is don't go too big, here's why, you want to stay with a wearable size, stones over 20 cts in weight are just to big to set and wear and 95% of all buyers buy stones to have them set and wear. When you make a purchase larger than 20 cts you really cut down on the amount of buyers you will attract should you ever choose to sell the stone. The stones that exceed the 20 ct mark field only a small amount interested buyers/investors due to two facts, the first is affordability and the second is use, there really is no practical use for a stone over 20 cts so only investors would have an interest.
Your best bet is to invest in 2 or 3 stones of 10 cts each instead of that tempting purchase of a 30 ct stone. The one other thing to keep in mind in regards to these purchases is to stay with the standard cuts. Rounds, Ovals, Emeralds and Cushions (both square and long) yeild the best investment value long term in Tanzanite as well as all other stones.
