Hello,
You made it to this guide because you want to learn a little about the Singer Feather weight Portable sewing machine 221-1 model.
This handy little machine has become the most popular for today's quilter's. A small size and weighs about 11 pounds. This special machine can be carried to quilting bees or quilt class with ease. Most of the stitching isn't fancy, just going forward or backwards, but the stitching is superior and a dream machine. It will sew the most even stitches of any other machine to date.
The 221-1 was first introduced during the mid 1930s and lasted until the early 1960s. The most popular years of use were during 1948 to 1959. Most were black in color, but there were other shades introduced too. White is highly collected and rare to find. It came with its own case for storage and transporting. A simple machine to operate and sturdy in construction.
During the past 10 to 20 years they have become very collectible. Especially the older models or odd colored feather weights.
A fan club was started in its honor too.
One of my favortie machines and I recommend it for quilter's or quilt collectors.
