Unfortunately the selling of "Fake" or "Bootleg" licensed jerseys on EBAY and other online sites is a serious and growing problem. As one of the few legitimate sellers of "Authentic" Officially licensed jerseys on Ebay we recognize the difficulty buyers presently have in sorting through the incredible amount of fakes listed in the respective fan shops on Ebay.
We have outlined below a few simple tips in spotting and avoiding "Fake" jerseys.
1) ALL "officially licensed" Baseball, Football, and Basketball Jerseys MUST have a "Hang Tag" (usually attached to the inside neck label) and a "Jock Tag" (usually sewn on the bottom front left hand side of the jersey) clearly visible on the jersey. If you see a jersey being sold without these "tags" you can be 100% sure it is a "fake".
2) If a Seller does not provide the name of the "Manufacturer" (or Brand) in his description it is most likely because he is selling a "Knockoff" or "Fake". All legitimate sellers will always indicate the "Brand" of the jersey ("Majestic", "Russell", "CCM", "Reebok", "Mitchell & Ness", etc.) in their descriptions because it will help to sell the item.
3) If a seller describes his item as "Factory Sealed" you can pretty much bet it is a "fake". All legitimate "Majestic" baseball jerseys, and CCM Hockey Jerseys are NEVER shipped "Factory Sealed".
4) If the pictures the Seller provides in the listings are poor, and distant, it is most likely because the seller does not want you to get a good look at his "Fake" item. Sellers of legitimate products will always try to make sure they provide the clearest and largest pictures to their customers.
5) Always be wary of Sellers who use "Stock" or "Computer generated" pictures in their listings. These pictures are easy to download from the manufacturers website and in most cases the seller does not even have the product on hand.
6) Presently only the following manufacturers are licensed to produce jerseys:
a)"Majestic Athletic" is the exclusive "On Field" uniform manufacturer for MLB baseball.
b) "Mitchell & Ness" is the official manufacturer of "Authentic" Throwback Baseball jerseys.
C) "RBK/CCM" is the exclusive "On Ice" uniform manufacturer for NHL hockey.
7) Use common sense. If a seller is selling an item for way below the retail and wholesale value it is safe to assume that the jersey is either Fake, or is a Second (damaged). The phrase "If something looks too good to be true, it probably is" never wrung more true than on Ebay.
I hope the above information has been helpful, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding the authenticity of an item you are interested in.
