Simple Clip On Facts:

We have been selling sunglasses and clip ons for 24 years.  When we started in 1984 Clip ons were almost a buy one and fits all type of a situation. There were six to choose from.  We kept up on our suppliers and now have Ten Shapes72 Sizes and Seven main catagories of lens colors and 7 Sub-catagories for lens colors.  When a customer comes up to our booth and sees the display these days it is over-whelming and most will walk away if we don't offer help.

First we look at the buyers shape and style of glasses.  I have even said oh they are rectangle and the person wearing them thought they were oval or maybe square.  So we get the shape down and then the size.  The size needed is one lense and the width  [-----].  Usually that is enough to get the right size and fit.  Unless is an oval or rectangle, sometimes what is needed is a skinny rectangle or skinny oval.  Then we need the heighth of the one lense.  After twenty four years of selling we can look at them and know usually the exact size and shape with out measuring. (I can also do ring sizes, but then that is a different business).

The next question is what lens type:

  •  The majority prefer polarized, all want UV protection. Polarized comes in two colors: the smoke/gray color or brown the lighter of the two.
  •  Driving lens, which has replaced the blue blockers, the blue is not blocked any more, but still get that clear look.
  • Our darkest is just called a Smoke lens and comes in Darkest smoke or brown with UV protection.
  •  We have rose colored, comes in limited sizes, one of my favorites and fun to wear.  Good shooting lens color.
  • Mirrored clip ons come in blue/red/rainbow and a silver mirror.  I know not easy to look at, but...the mirror reflects the sun away from your eyes and the tinted lens underneath gives added protection.  This are good for bright visual sun, getting rid of snow reflection in the sunny months on the slopes.  Good for water too.  What I am pushing for right now is a polarized clip on with a mirror, they have them in a sunglass and they are fantastic on the water when boating. Keep your fingers crossed that I can get the people that be to make that investment soon.
  • Yellow Lens is for night driving and I have just recently tried these myself.  Takes a few minutes to adjust to the yellow. But, on our two lane highway with on coming lights and street lights I have found them easy to wear and very helpful with night driving.  I am diabetic and my vision can change with my sugar levels and I can use all the clarity I can get.  I have a friend that likes wearing the yellow lens in buildings that have flourescent lighting during the day.  They are also used as a target shooting lense.

So, when looking for a clip on

  1.  first know the shape that you need.
  2. Next what lens will work best for you and please remember someone else may insist that smoke polarized is the only lens to wear, when really your eyes feel the most comfortable with the driving, or you ski and want a mirror.  None of the choices I have listed will harm you, it is a personal preference.  I use the driving, rose and night lens, polarized on water.  Kind of depends on the mood or the activity.
  3. To get the right fit measure ONE lens width and heighth, in mm's when possible or exact inches.  The ones we get are in mm's, 50mm equal two inches.  So, we can break inches down into mm's.

The frames are different colors too. Brown, gold, silver, pewter, black.  The boxes I have are assorted, I don't know what color frames I am fitting on e-bay unless the buyer is very specific.   With most orders I'm doing good to get the shape, size and lens color without a frame choice thrown in.  Tho I will always send a color choice if it is requested.  Otherwise, I send the next color in the box.

So,

  1. Shape
  2. Lens type
  3. Color
  4. Frame color

...is what you need when looking for a clip on.  With my clip ons I will fill each request to the best of my ability.  If we don't get it perfect the first time, I understand and we can do a return and resend, just trace your glasses and send that to me by e-mail or ask for my fax#.

The little plastic cases they normally come in don't hold up good.  I send at my expense a leather case, if you buy three different colored clip ons I try to put in three different colored cases so you know which one is the clip on for the day.  I also when I have them available toss in a sunglass cleaning clothe.  Again at my expense.

Why?  I want to my best ability to meet your needs for clips on in the same manner I would want someone on the other end to meet mine.  What would I want?.....and that is what I try to do in my business.  That is also why I use flat shipping.  Right now I think it is the fairest way to mail for the customer and the easiest for myself.

I'm not perfect and sometimes we have to do an exchange, but, like you have read above I am trying to fit your glasses that I can not see with the information you give me to the best of my ability.  Also, I have a busy life outside of E-bay, right now my mom is getting a pre-op for brain surgery she will have next week.  Hubby took her so I can stay home and work online.  I will give a refund, If you change your mind and don't want to buy that is not a problem.  However, don't buy one and then send money for two trying to by-pass e-bay.  E-bay has given me an opportunity to sell from my home which enables me to take care of two sick parents and a not so well retired husband and the farm.  I in no way have any desire to cheat them out of their fees.  Thanks much on that.

Well I hope this helps in buying clip ons and that I wasn't to long winded, just had coffee with my best bud Pat so ya know what a white mocha with whip cream will do. :)

Have the best of days and if it isn't look for the smallest of blessings, you'll find one.

Debbie/Poppy
