Well, thanks for taking the time to read my guide, if you find this helpful please vote yes below so that we will know that this guide is helping. First I have been in the Coin business now for almost 20 years and on ebay for the last 5 years where I have a very good rating as far as my feedback goes. I never claim to be the most knowledgable about all coin subjects but my experience with coins gives me an advantage over many that are regular collectors, and this guide is for anyone that wants to learn more as we all learn new things everyday in the world of coins, regardless of how much experience you have.
First off I have spent the last 2 hours sitting here in this hotel room while on a business trip reading some of these guides written by several that that claim to know the ropes on purchasing silver bullion. 1st from someone that has been purchasing bullion from one of the major companies in the world today let me start by stating a few facts. First one guide here on ebay states that when buying in bulk you can purchase silver bullion for about $10 an ounce, that is incorrect, when purchasing silver bullion what you can expect to pay for it is whatever the current days spot price is, no dealer or distributor is going to ever sell silver bullion below what they can get it melted for. For example that would be like someone selling a $10 bill for $8 it doesent make sence.
When purchasing silver bullion be prepared to pay a small preminum depending on the type of bullion your buying. Some bullion pieces are designed with strict limited quanities of that specific piece, when this is seen expect to pay a preminum for this type of item as quanities are limited and may not be readily available at the time. Preminum values depend largely on the specific bar or round itself. A great book to get if you are the bullion collector of silver is titled "Silver Collectors Guide to Rounds and Bars". Last place I saw this book available was at the B.Daulton Book Store in our local Mall, however I am sure any of the major book chains can order this book for you. It is a great guide that gives you prices and values for over 25,000 different rounds and bars and also info on who made them and their mintage if they have one. It also has well over 4,000 pictures in it to give you a guide as to what many of the bars look like as far as design. Many silver pieces have high values like coins do so just beware of what your buying and make sure that you are buying from a seller that backs his product up and has good feedback. Read their feedback, AND JUDGE FOR YOURSELF AFTER READING THEIR FEEDBACK. Many great sellers may have a negitive or two but that may also be from a disgruntle customer, as we all know regardless of what business you ae in not everyone will always be happy. If that was possible we would never have to worry or wonder if it would rain again or be sunny. Just common sence, everyone has it we just need to use it.
Next I want to say "KUTOS" to ebay for finally starting to get a lot of these bogus slab/certified auctions off their site, it's about time. I have been a respected powerseller on ebay now for a long time and ebay actually called me and asked for my opinion regarding their new policies that were coming and I told them as I am telling you, it can be a great policy as long as they follow through with their rule. It does no good to make rules if you don't plan on following through with them. Remember their are only a handful of reliable grading companies. If you are going to purchase graded coins do so from one of these companies PCGS, NGC, ANACS, and a couple of others, at least when buying the coins graded by these companies you are getting the most reliable professional grade possible.
Last but not least, we are in the process of opening our newest store in Washington state and I want to touch on the shipping costs aspect of the business as many buyers and customers of ours has asked these questions so we decided to make our opinions knon on this fact. Please note that this is our opinion and others may have a different one and thats fine as everyone has their own ideas on this. First off we offer FREE SHIPPING on every item that we sell, thats our company policy always has been and always will be as long as we can possibily do this. We dont inflate the price of the item either to make up for that, please look at the item you are buying when the ad says free shipping. Make sure that what you are buying is not priced at over what the book value of the item is. If this is the case then buy with caution as chances are that the seller is covering their shipping costs with the over priced item. If a seller is offering Free Shipping then it should be free not padded with an over priced item. 2nd, if you are buying a single coin and the seller does require you to pay shipping and thats fine, make sure that the shipping costs are normal for the shipping you will receive. Example if a seller is advertising shipping at say $5 then you should be getting priority mail shipping as the costs for Priority mail starts at $4.60 FOR A FLAT RATE ENVELOPE. Basicly what this means is that the seller can ship the item or items for that price as long as the package does not exceed the 4lb limit. I guess its best to just say use your own judgement when doing this, if you are happy with what you are paying then so be it, but remember their are many sellers out their that are offeing legitimate FREE SHIPPING and it is a wise move to take advantage of this, as you can then use the money that you would have paid for shipping and add another coin to your collection.
I hope this info has been helpful and in the future we will be adding more reviews as time goes on, we are currently away from ebay right now as we are relocating our store to Washington but should be back in full swing on ebay by around the 1st of November. Remember we are always available to help any collector or fellow ebayer if they have questions. Please feel free to email or contact us and we are always happy to help if possible. Thanks and have a great week.
