Lately, I have received more than a couple of fake emails.  At first, like anyone, I am excited that one of my auction items is selling for a Buy It Now, but then, I notice that the person specifically makes mention of the fact that I needed to click on the 'yellow button' to respond to him, He was asking about shipping which was listed right on the auction. He wanted to buy my item and finalized the transaction quickly, telling me I must reply to him as soon as possible.  Then  I really began to look at it, and noticed at the top it was only addressed to my Ebay user ID, it did not use my registered name, which Ebay always uses when contacting you.  Hmmm, check out the font. All of Ebay's emails have the same font, this one had much larger font.  The more you question the appearance of the email, the persistance of the writer for you to do something, the instructions from the writer to click on anything and also the threat that you will be reported to Ebay, PayPal and the Police if you don't respond.  These are all signs that you should be suspicious.

My best advice to all Ebayers is to forward the email to spoof  @  Ebay.com and they will get back to you quite quickly with a response that will usually say, "yes, this is a fake email", Then delete it immediately.  Again, just forward it, even if it looks only slightly suspicious, don't go checking out the item they are asking you about, because if you don't remember it, it probably doesn't exist.  After sending a few of these fake emails to spoof  @  ebay.com, it concerned me that I'm sure there are good honest Ebayers who are falling for these scams and dang it, I can't do anything about it other than write this guide and hope that someone who might possibly be curious enough to click on a fake email would read this and begin sending curious emails to spoof@ ebay.com .  Again, you will be surprised at how quickly they will respond if it is a fake and they will inform you that they are in the process of disabling the account.  Now that is a good feeling that maybe you kept someone from being scammed by atleast this guy or atleast slowed him down awhile until he creates another personna.  The good and the bad exists even in our Ebay world.  Be safe.

One month after writing the above and I am receiving more and more fake emails that pretend a number of different scams.  They come from Ebaymotors.com and other ebay sites saying (your bid has been cancelled for the following item number____________.  They hope you will click on the link of the item number...PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING THAT CAUSES YOU TO QUESTION IT.  Again, just forward it to spoof @ebay.com especially if it is not in your MY EBAY messages.  Security will notify you if this is a fake or not...mine have been 100% fakes.  Also, I have been receiving fake emails stating my PayPal account has been compromised and I must CLICK on the link within 24 hours or my account will be suspended.  PLEASE FORWARD THESE TO spoof @paypal.com.   Again, Be safe.
