I have personally used the Shurlok Lockbox for close to 5 years.  The ratings guide below is based off of my experience as a homeowner, Real Estate Investor, and the experience of those that I personally know that have used The Shurlok brand lockbox.

Here are the 3 colors currently offered by Shurlok.

Their is also an alpha dial version for the blue box

I have made a list of categories to adequately make a comparison to other brands and types of boxes.

each of these Categories are rated on a scale of 1 to 10

“1” being poorest “10” being the best.

Quality Of Construction “9”

PROS: The ShurLok has an all-metal construction with brass dials that are chrome plated. Many of my boxes are over 5 years old and still work as well as the day I purchased them.

CONS: The Shurlok has the appearance of being a “Cheap” or lesser quality box even though it is high quality.

Attractiveness of Product “5”

PROS: The ShurLok affords you the same benefit of a professional image that any lockbox can provide

CONS: The Shurlok is probably the least attractive box of its' competition.

Ease of Use: “7”

PROS: The ShurLok is so easy to use that a child able to read numbers can open it. Simply give the other person the 4-digit number to access the key storage compartment. The 4 dial system is more secure and does not require sequential steps.  With the ShurLok, if you are off one number, simply correct that number.

CONS: The dials are small and close together so if you have long fingernails or “fat fingers” then you will experience some frustration with the design.

Changing the Combination With Ease: “6”

PROS: The ShurLok has a change button on the side whereby it only takes seconds and a coin or paperclip to change your combination.

CONS: If you have never changed the combination on one of these before the process is just a little tricky. Once you have done it a couple of times it takes only a few seconds. Also the change screw can break if you use something other than a paperclip or coin to turn the change button.  If you don’t read the instructions

Security: “8”

PROS: ShurLok has 10,000 possible combinations.  Far Superior than Punch Button Lock Boxes which are not near as secure.  For example If your combination on the punch button is 1-2-3-4,  the combination is NOT sequential.  This means that you can open up the lock box on 4-3-2-1, 2-3-4-1, etc. ...ANY combination of those 4 numbers out of 10 can open up the punch button lock box.  This translates into a lock box that is not very secure.

CONS: The shurlok remains unlocked unless you close the side door and spin the dials. Sometimes the lockbox can be inadvertantly left open and thus minimizes the security.

Price:  “10”

PROS: The Shurlok sell at around $10 less retail than the competition.

CONS: The Shurlok is the least attractive of the competion and has the appearance of a cheaper or inferior box

Features: These are important to note features to know when making your buying decision:

   1. No Front Face to Lose:  Other brand lock boxes have the common problem of the face falling off the front if it is not clicked back in securely.   With the face falling off onto the ground,  this poses an open invitation for anyone to pick up those keys and access the home. Also,  people often walk off with the front face which means you then have to buy a new lock box.  ShurLok has solved this problems with an innovative sliding door on the side and no front face that gets lost or falls off the front.

   2. Zero Lock: The ShurLok can be opened in the dark for nighttime access or the visually impaired.  Simply roll the dials up and away from you until the numbers all lock on zero and then count your numbers in sequential order down from there.

   3. Theft deterrence: The competitor's lock box has a hasp release latch that is accessible once the face is taken off whereby the shackle can be released and the box taken. The ShurLok has one combination for the shackle and another for the Key Storage thus reducing the boxes stolen. (I have had several of my own boxes stolen using this exact procedure.)

ShurLok is a great solution for your key storage and security needs.  Here is a list of just a few of the uses my clients have purchased them for.

  • Real Estate & Property Management
  • Maintenance People & Cleaning Personnel
  • After School Access for Children
  • Easy Access for Friends and Family
  • Emergency Access for the Elderly
  • Construction Sites & Vehicles
  • Contractors & Subcontractors
  • Recreational Vehicles
  • Boats & Boat Lockers
  • Bicycles and Motor Bikes
  • Vacation Properties & Rentals
  • Great for Joggers & Outdoor Sports!
  • And anywhere having access to keys unattended is a priority

Never leave your keys under the mat again keep the keys to you house in a safe and secure place.

The Shurlok also has some great add on accessories:

    * The Shurlok Wall Mount Bracket. This bracket will allow you to mount your shurlok to any flat surface:

   1. Mount bracket to flat surface
   2. Slide Shurlok onto the surface mounting bracket
   3. Close the hasp on the Shurlok
   4. Insert key and you are done.

    * The shurlok also has a cable attachment  that can be used  to chain up a  bike, motorcycle or other object that you want to prevent  the theft of.
