Should you or should you not buy knives made in China? This point of view is changing!

I buy knives from China Now!  My collection is small compared to others. I own and keep two hundred knives in my collection! Some I have bought, a few I have made and many I have restored.  I have swords and knives dating back as far as 1800's to Present.

As of present day made knives, I have bought from China, USA, Taiwan and Japan. Consider these four above countries as viable options: Do not discount China now, and do not consider any as the, "One Standard"!!! These are my opinions!

I learned from Earl Dillion, "Featured in The Gun Digest Book of Knives, 4th Edition." God Rest His Soul.

Knives made in China!!!

  • Does or will the knife meet your needs?
  • Does the knife sharpen easily and hold a blade?
  • Will the maker back it's blade against normal wear and tear for at least five years?

China? I have a Dakota Knife and Browning Model 070 lock blade knives made in China!  These knives are of a Brand that backs their knives! They hold an Edge and I can abuse and re-use them proudly as knives that serve their purpose! Dakota, Kershaw, Hibben, Kabar and many others use China and other countries now to make cost effective knives! I have them, and abuse them, just to compare them to US made knives.......I give alot of them as gifts.  I am impressed with the models I have bought from China.

Don't forget China invented incredible Carbon Metals and Gun Powder long before we read about them in history books!

Yes, third world countries"China" make most products we use for a lower cost!  I am American Through and Through.................I have served my country............but give me a product based on:

  • Reliability, regardless were it is from! This includes guns and knives...............Smith and Wesson agreed they lost their market to reliable semi automatic hand guns made in other countries, verses US made revolvers for our police and government!!!! This includes knives now!

Knives made in Japan were laughed at.......................now compare a Globe or Globemaster to some knives made in the US and other countries!!!

Use common sense................if it is really cheap in cost it might be cheap?

  •  Look at the warranty and company!  Will the manufacturer back it's product!
  • Sorry to say made in USA doesn't mean much to me any more!  When it comes to reliability, stocks, life and death............give me what gives me the best chances when the chips are down...........call me what you want...........but when I can argue back.....I made it alive!!!!!!!!!!!!  Get the point!

China made knives are on the rise!!!! Use common sense............

  • Look at the Company
  • Look at the Warranty
  • Abuse the hell out of the knife and how it bounces back..............regardless of the above...........does it meet the need!!!!!

China? You choose.............but some of my knives now are China, Taiwan and Japan!  Return on my money for Reliability and what the people want????  Forty Percent of my profit if I were to sell my knives come from China!!!  In the stock market and real estate that would be a good return for my money!!!!!!!!!

You choose????

Let me know what you think or if you have any questions...................let me know.

Take Care,

Kris Martinelli
