Short overview of genuine shearling on today's market

I receive a lot of questions from my  valuable customers regarding shearling products. "What is Toscana fur, what is the Rasado or Merino?"," Is it Fake shearling?", " Why your price is so low, maybe because you are selling fake shearling?", "There is no shearling with the leather finish...", "My local furrier told me that only fake shearling  could be with the leather finish" are very common questions that the buyers ask me.
I decided to share my personal views based on my my selling experience and Internet research. I am not a professional manufacturer of shearling fur products, but I am a professional seller and I am doing this job the best as I can over the last 20 years. And I enjoy very much the felling when I receive letters from my satisfied customers  about the quality of the  shearling, which I am selling.

The most popular raw material that is used in manufacturing modern top fashion  shearling garments is Double Face Shearling which is processed and finished without removing the wool. It's characterized by careful selection of strong sheep pelts and high quality of wool.
To the best of my knowledge , there are five  types of Spanish lambskins on today's market: Toscana, Corto, Merino, Rasado and Enterfino. They are originating  mostly from the north of Iberian Peninsula which is a part of Spain, Portugal and Andorra.
Toscana longhair shearling fur: the most expensive on the market today and is produced from baby lambskins leaving the long wool.
Corto shearling: the lambskins is the same as Toscana but with a short wool inside.
Merino :this type of shearling produced from larger and older sheepskins than Toscana or Corto and comes with more wool which  is very soft and dense inside.
Rasado: this is a shearling from Marino baby lambskins which  are the lightest and delicate pelts in this family of 5 types of shearling. The difference from  Merino that is a thinner and softer wool inside, because it's derived from a smaller size of the pelts.
These  4 types of above shearling differentiate from the rest shearling by a butter soft texture of suede outside and a soft fur inside.
I am not quite familiar with Entrefino shearling, wchich also belongs to the type of spanish shearling but from my research it- is  much more thick  sheealring comparing to Merino. The wool is more rigid and heavier than all the above types of shearling due of their density.

And as a conclusion which is based on the garments availabble in my eBay store http://stores.ebay.ca/Handbags-Purse-Bags-and-Furs I would say that Toscana Shearling is on the top of this pyramid in terms of price and keeping the warmth.
Rosada shearling  is the lightest and most delicate shearling, but may not be suitable for a low temperature because it is thin and is not warm enough.
Merino has an excellent protection for a low temperature because of a fur density inside. Coats from Merino are a little heavier than coats made of Rasada. And from my point of view it's hard to tell the difference between these two ones  at a glance.  To my opinion, if you plan to wear the coat in California, Rasada would be more than enough. But if you need it for a colder climate, Merino is a winner.
The garments from Toscana Shearling are also light-weight and soft , but not as light as Rasado but are the warmest and pleasurable to wear. You can find this type of garments only in expensive fashion  boutiques.

In regards to the leather-like or "silky" finishing , it is not the same leather that you may find on pure leather jackets. Silky coat or jacket has a suede surface with a special treatment. In order to prevent the tender suede surface from damaging, modern manufacturers invented a pigmented coating, which is applied to the suede side of the lamb skins which gives it a fashionable leather finish. It's called "silky" coating. This is a thin layer of coating that looks and feels like real leather. This is called Leather Finishing. leather does not have real fur lining, but suede does.all these are real skin and real fur, no man-made materials, except coating.
All  shearling fur garments with a leather look finish in my Ebay store are made of top quality genuine lamb skins that have the silky pigmented coating.

Please, take a look at our collection of shearling garments which is a reflection of the main trends of shearling fashion on today's market.
It is hard to believe that these super quality shearling products can be sold at such ridiculously low prices in my eBay store but this is true. I buy these coats directly from the manufacturer and pass the savings to my customers.

Thank you all visitors and valuable custormers of my eBay store for your questions,
My best wishes,
Svitlana
